Daniel Rose

James Daniel Rose, age 88, of Dafter, Michigan passed away on Friday, June 20, 2008 at his home. He was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on February 9, 1920. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a drill instructor in Little Rock, Arkansas. On August 22, 1946, he married his wife, Germainne, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sault Ste. Marie. Dan worked for Dafter Moving and Construction Company, moving many houses in and around the EUP. One winter, he even moved a house across Munuscong Bay over the ice. Dan was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a very active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He was one of its monthly pasty makers. He was also a supporter of Fr. Peter Fosu's church-building project in Ghana, West Africa. Dan was a season ticket holder for the Lake Superior State University hockey games. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and wood working. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Dan is survived by his sister, Louise Rose of Dafter; two daughters: Diane Glaz of Dafter, MI, and Nancy Stec of Stalwart, MI; two sons: Dan (Mel) Rose of Pickford, MI, and Dave (Fran) Rose of Rome, NY; two daughters-in-law: Janis Rose of Pickford, MI, and Valerie (Jeff) Rose-Schmidt of Sarasota, FL; 13 grandchildren: Christopher Rose, Joshua (Sarah) Rose, Emily (Brian) Seifferlein, Kara (Tom) Batho, Matthew (Kristen) Glaz, Sara Stec, Steven (Mandy) Stec, Sally (Steve) Williams, Stephanie Rose, Wes Rose, David (Ashley) Rose, Eric Rose, and Katie Rose; and 10 great grandchildren: Benjamin, Alexander, Joseph, Cody, Ellasyn, Bailee, Delaney, Drake, Kirsten, and Rowan. Dan is also survived by best friend, Vicki Dragiewicz; five sisters-in-law: Jackie Rose, Annette Rath, Joan Savoie, Harriet Savoie, and Helen Savoie, and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Elizabeth (Aube) Rose; his wife, Germainne Rose; two sons: Joseph and Phillip Rose; two sons-in-law: Jim Glaz and Ray Stec; a grandson, David Van Luven; two sisters: LaVerne (Phil) Longley and Thomasine (Web) Cutler; and three brothers: Fred Rose, Harry Graham, and George (Helen) Graham. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home with evening prayers at 7:30 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Brimley, with Father Ted Brodeur as Celebrant. Burial will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens. Memorials may be left to Fr. Peter Fosu's work in Ghana.
