Dorothy (Lucas) Allen

Dorothy (Lucas) Allen passed away peacefully on Friday January 27, 2017 at War Memorial Hospital Long Term Care. She was born January 13, 1922 in Iron Mountain, Michigan the daughter of John and Mary Lucas. Dorothy moved from Iron Mountain to Sault Ste. Marie after graduating from Iron Mountain High School in 1940. Dorothy was a telephone operator for Michigan Bell Telephone during WWII. She married Paul Allen on April 6, 1946 and began a new career as a wife and mother. She was active in Cub Scouts as a Den Mother and a Bluebird Leader. She was also an avid baker and always had cookies handy for the neighbor kids. Her pasties were often imitated but never duplicated. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, walking and with her friends. She retired from J.C. Penny after 22 years of service. She then started working elections for many years. Dorothy also volunteered her time for St. Joseph’s Thrift Shop for 25 years. Dorothy is survived by her children Paul (Jean) Allen of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Terry (Darlene) Allen of Waukesha, Wisconsin and Linda (Tom) Spuhler of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; grandchildren Jackie (Nate) Line of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Dianna (Karl) Allen of Bay City, Michigan, Jim Allen of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Kimberly (Chris) Adams of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, Mike Spuhler of Lansing, Michigan and Amanda (Ben Huyck) Buhro of Pickford, Michigan; great grandchildren Lily and Ella Line of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Brenden Adams of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, Maisie and Tommy Buhro of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and Makenna Huyck of Pickford, Michigan. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Mary Lucas, sister Amelia Strucel, and brothers John and Joseph Lucas. A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday May 26, 2017 from 10:30am until 11:00am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00am Friday May 26, 2017 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Michael Chenier as Celebrant. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thank you to the staff of War Memorial Long Term Care for the loving and professional care our mother received during her stay. They went above and beyond with anything we or our mother needed. God Bless.
