Michael Joseph Hinds

Michael Joseph Hinds, age 62, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan passed away Sunday evening, August 4, 2013 at War Memorial Hospital. Mike was born on October 11, 1950 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to Joseph and Mary (Postula) Hinds. Mike was a 1968 graduate of Loretta High School. He attended LSSC and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business and later earned a Master's Degree in International Finance from the University of Michigan. On September 1, 1979, he married Sharon Smith in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Mike was a long time member and Past President of both the Elks Club and the Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of PGI-Pyrotechnic Guild International. Mike was an avid Chef who wowed friends and family constantly with his skills. He enjoyed games of all types; including bridge, euchre, computer, trivia, and anything Halloween related. Mike especially loved his weekly arguments with Jeff Stefanski-or as it was fondly known as "dinner and a show". He had many professional endeavors including business management at both the Evening News and Point Beer Brewery in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. He owned and operated housing rentals for over 30 years and luckily was very good at plumbing and electrical which came in handy for this business. Michael is survived by his wife: Sharon Smith-Hinds; his mother: Mary Hinds of Marquette, MI, three children: Heather Smith of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, James "Jeb" (Jean) Smith of Petoskey, MI, and Jerry Smith of El Paso, Texas; three grandchildren: Marley Smith, Ryan Smith, and Madalyn Tracy; two sisters: Maryann (Bill) Ferns of Marquette, MI and Dr. Kathleen Hinds of Corvalls, Oregon; and a brother: Tim (Lisa) Hinds of DeWitt, MI. He is also survived by nephews: John Paul (Daine) Broad, Robert (Lori) Broad, Andrew (Brooke) Ferns; a niece: Brianne (Matthew) Olson; and six grandnieces. He was preceded in death by his father: Joseph Hinds and a brother: Patrick Hinds. A time of gathering and Refreshments will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 PM on Monday, August 12, 2013 at the Elks Lodge on Portage Avenue. A short memorial service will begin at 7:00 PM with a celebration of his life to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Hospice of the EUP.
