A. Joseph Tietz, Jr.

A. Joseph Tietz, Jr. passed away on December 20, 2017 at the Ball Hospice House in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan .Joe was born January 2, 1931 in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from Marist High School in Atlanta and attended Georgia State College, Athens, Georgia. He served in the U.S. Air Force for three years during the Korean War and served on Okinawa Island and Japan. While stationed in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, he met and married a local girl, M. Theresa Bedore. They moved to Atlanta where Joe was employed in warehousing. After retiring in 1993, Joe and Theresa resided in Sault Ste. Marie at their home on Sun Glo Drive for several years before moving to Tampa, Florida in 2002. They resided in Florida for many years before moving back to Sault Ste. Marie in 2016 where they make their home at McKinley Manor Assisted Living. Joe was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was also a member of the American Legion in Sault Ste. Marie. He was an avid football fan; his favorite college football team was the Georgia Bulldogs of Athens; his favorite professional team was the Atlanta Falcons. He coached many youth in Little League baseball for several years in Atlanta. After retiring, he was able to use his love for cooking when he joined the “Golden Guys and Gals” in Tampa, a group that organized and prepared monthly meals for seniors and also sponsored other events. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Mary McDermott Tietz and Adolph Tietz, Sr; his brother William (Patricia); his sister Catherine (Paul) Crist of Anaheim, California and a nephew, Bill. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, M.Theresa Bedore Tietz; his best friend and fishing buddy Gordon MacMaster and many loving nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their great appreciation to Father Chenier, Dr. Chander and his staff; the staff at McKinley Manor and the staff and volunteers at the Hospice House of the EUP. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Friday December 29, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Michael Chenier as celebrant. Visitation will be held 6:00pm until 7:30pm on Thursday December 28, 2017 at Clark-Bailey-Newhouse Funeral Home with prayers at 7:30pm. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
