Albert Gerald "Jerry" Warner

Albert Gerald “Jerry” Warner, age 81, of DeTour Village, Michigan, died May 20, 2016, in Ishpeming, Michigan. He was born June 20, 1934, in Goetzville, Michigan, to Albert Marion and Marjorie Agatha (Goetz) Warner. Jerry grew up in Goetzville where he attended the one room school house. He went on to attend Detour Schools and graduated in 1952. In 1953, he married Mary Poglese and they started their family in Goetzville. Jerry went in the Army and served in Germany. In 1956, he came home from the army and went to work at the Drummond Island dolomite quarry. He worked there for 32 years. In 1972, he married Olive Layne Shimp and they have lived in Detour. Jerry liked to be outdoors. He liked gardening, hunting and fishing, and Detroit Tiger Baseball. He loved his pet cats and spent countless hours carving wood into all kinds of lifelike wildlife. He and Olive traveled to Alaska six times. They traveled in a pickup with a camper on it and lived off the fish they caught along the way. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Jerry is survived by his wife, Olive; daughter, Janet Marie (Derrell) Syria of Marquette, Michigan; sons, Steven Anthony (Shannon) Warner, and Larry James (Candace) Warner, both of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; grandchildren, Matthew William (Julie) Syria, Michelle Mya Marie (Robert) Inahuazo, Ethan Gerald Syria, Michelle Diane (Bubba) Meyer, Anthony (Tiffany Ness) Warner, Sophia (Jalen Spaay) Warner, Jessyka Robinson, Ashley Robinson, Cassaundra (Christopher) Cohrs, Jillian Warner, and Jacob Warner; great grandchildren, Michael, Sophia, Evelyn, Hanna, Logan, Kiva, Malakai, Olivia, Lillian, Nicholina, Bradley, and Kaden. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon (Jack) Melin of Bark River, Michigan, and sister-in-law, Jennifer Warner of Brooksville, Florida. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Gerald Warner; brothers, James Anthony Warner and Paul David Warner; and sister-in-law, Roberta Moyer. Services for Jerry will be held on Wednesday, May 25, at R Galer Funeral Home, 24549 S. M-129 in Pickford, Michigan. Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M., followed by the funeral service which will begin at 2 P.M. with Pastor David Henderson officiating.
