Andrew M. Malette

Early Tuesday morning, December 8, 2015 Andrew Michael Malette, age 84, went on to be with his Lord and Savior. Andy was born January 2, 1931 in Sault Ste. Marie to his proud father and mother John and Bertha Malette. Andy was the 8th of 9 children. He loved his family dearly. He enjoyed summers spent at Lake Chiblow (near Iron Bridge, Ontario) always with a smile on his face and that twinkle in his eye. Andy is now reunited with his family in heaven - his wife Lois, his parents, brothers Jack, Ed, Art, Harold, Bob & Frank and sisters Mary & June. Andy graduated from Sault High in the class of 1949. On November 7, 1958 Andy married Lois Leach. Andy and Lois met at the First Church of Christ where Lois sang in the choir. Andy always put God first in their marriage and stood firm through the good times and bad - in sickness and in health. Lois and Andy had two children, Erick (Rick) and Dawn. Andy had so much fun with them - playing hockey, snow-mobiling, fishing and hunting. Andy loved his family dearly and leaves behind Son, Erick, wife, Debbie, and grand-daughter Melissa Malette of Fairfax Station VA; daughter Dawn and husband Mark Palo of Chesapeake VA; grand-son Jeremy, wife Emily, and three great grandchildren Madelyn, Lucas and Rebecca Bosdell of Lebanon, Ohio. Andy started sailing on the Great Lakes when he was 17 years old. He loved sailing and his job as Chief Engi-neer. He ended his sailing career in 1961 to be at home with his wife as they raised their children. Andy served his country from August 10, 1954 to May 14, 1956 in United States Army during the Korean War. Andy devoted the rest of his career as a civil service worker supporting the United States Air Force from November 20, 1961 to July 10, 1993 as an Engineer. Andy loved the outdoors. He looked forward to deer hunting season every year at the '40' along with brothers, nephews, sons and friends and lots of great food. Fishing was another favorite past time - especially with brother Art, nephew Roger and son Rick at Lake Chiblow. One could call Andy a 'tinkerer' who enjoyed hours and hours in his garage making creations such as fishing lures and bird feeders as well as repairing anything that needed it. There are no words to describe the gratitude of Andy's family for..... -the devotion of friends and family who continued to love and support our Mom and Dad through the many years of our Dad's illness; -the firefighters that came at a moments notice to pick our Dad up when he had fallen and ALWAYS with the utmost of dignity, respect and compassion; -the many caregivers from EUP Home Health and Hospice and Community Action that cared for my Mom and Dad as if they were their own - especially Kim H. who must be just what angels in heaven are like; -and last but surely not least each caregiver at War Memorial Hospital's Long Term Care who became like family to ours and lovingly cared for my Dad - and for us - this past year. A viewing will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the First Church of Christ. A funeral service will be held that same day at 11:00 AM at the church with Pastor Tom Cash officiating. Burial will be at Donaldson Cemetery.
