Anthony Booth Gustafson

Anthony B. Gustafson, MD, FACP Dr. Anthony Booth Gustafson, age 68, died June 11, 2014 in his native Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. In recent years, Tony resided at Freighter View Assisted Living. May his memory be eternal! Anthony Booth Gustafson was born September 6, 1945, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to Richard O. Gustafson and Coralie (Booth) Gustafson. He was a graduate of Williams College, attended Case Western University Medical School, and completed his internal medicine residency in the Harvard Service at Boston City Hospital. He joined the Navy Medical Corps in July 1, 1973 as an officer. While there, Tony piloted innovative research to aid in the health and welfare of the troops. After his service he continued as an advocate of healthcare, including becoming a well-respected endocrinologist at the Fargo Veterans Administration Hospital. Tony was known as a dedicated and passionate teacher to his many residents from the University of North Dakota Medical School. In 1977, he married Deborah (Stribrny) Gustafson and had three daughters: Alexandra, Anastasia, and Andreana. When he later welcomed his granddaughter Kristina into his life, the two shared an instant connection that only strengthened as their friendship grew. Clementine, Angel, and Matti, his three collies, added incredible joy to his family life. Tony had many interests and enjoyed several hobbies. Chief among them were nature walks, gardening, classical music, and supporting the Detroit Red Wings. Dr. Gustafson is preceded in death by both parents, Richard O. and Coralie B. Gustafson. He is survived by his three daughters, Alexandra, Anastasia, Andreana, and granddaughter Kristina. He is also survived by his brother, Richard (Betty Lou) Gustafson, several cousins and nephews, and honorary sons Adam Colby and Joe Skaggs Jr. Visitation: Monday, June 16th from noon to 1 p.m, St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Sault Ste.
