Bonita Louise Clayton

Bonita Louise Clayton, age 71, of St. Ignace Township, Michigan died on April 15, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born February 27, 1948 in Cedar Springs, Michigan to George M. and Marjorie Margaret (Wert) Hawley. Bonita grew up in Cedar Springs, and left school to go to work at Wolverine Boot Manufacturing. She worked there until she met Robert Clayton in 1969. They made their home in Howard City, Michigan and began their family. They later moved to Pickford, Michigan, and then to St. Ignace Township. Robert and Bonita got married April 1999 in Brimley, Michigan. Bonita worked for Michigan Department of Transportation in their Cedarville garage as a heavy equipment operator and later out of the St. Ignace garage until her retirement in 2008. Bonita loved spending time with her grandkids, camping, feeding animals, and crocheting. She liked baking including her specialties, monkey bread and wacky cake. She also liked to visit the casinos on senior days. Bonita is survived by her daughters, Penni Clayton of Kincheloe, Michigan, Nicole (Sonny) Laux of Sterling, Michigan, Lesley (Harold Middleton) Clayton of Kinross, Michigan, and Courtney (John) McClure of Moran, Michigan; grandchildren, Raelynn Sayles, Cassandra (Joseph Wilkins) Clayton, Keith Clayton, Sara Laux, Angel Clayton, Daniel Laux, Temple Laux III, Tyler McMillan, Trevor McClure, Hunter Amacher, Summer Amacher, Ford Laux; great-children, Cheyanne, Joseph Jr, Destiny, Bentley, Leevi, Payton, Aiden, Paisley, and Luke; sisters, Denise Veltcamp, Jennie MaGoon, and Margaret (Mike) Carriere all of Cedar Springs, Michigan, and Kathy Trader of Howard City, Michigan; brothers, George (Gayle) Hawley, Brian Hawley, Sam Hawley, and Kris Hawley all of Cedar Springs; and Tim (Jenny) Hawley of Pierson, Michigan and Jeff (Dawn) Hawley of Morley, Michigan. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Bonita is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Clayton; son, Robert Clinton Clayton Jr; granddaughter, Cheyanne Sales; sister, Irene Lee; and brothers-in-law, Ernie Hill and Norm Trader. A Memorial Service for Bonita will be announced later this summer. Burial will be in Idlewild Cemetery in Kent City, Michigan. R. Galer Funeral Home in Pickford, Michigan is serving the family.
