Clifton "Duck" Daniel DuVall

Clifton (Duck) Daniel DuVall, 81, passed away on 8/23/16 at McClaren Hospital, Petoskey, Michigan. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Lou (Lockwood) DuVall. Duck was born in Monroe, Michigan on October 1, 1934 which happened to coincide with the first day of duck hunting season. He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Luella DuVall and grew up in Luna Pier, Michigan. He was also preceded in death by his brother Bill DuVall and his late wife Mimi and survived by his sister JoAnn Vance and spouse Jim, Baldwin Michigan. He attended school at St. Joseph's in Erie, Michigan where he was also an alter boy. He was in the Navy from 1951 - 1955 and loved his country and veterans. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Erie, Michigan and a charter member of the American Legion, Luna Pier, Michigan. Duck had many talents working as a commercial fisherman, C&O Railroad conductor in Erie, MI and 9 years at the Chevrolet plant in Toledo, Ohio and then a marine dredgeman which took him all over the world up until he retired. After retirement, he worked for a family owned tree service travelling around Grand Rapids grinding stumps. He also enjoyed trapping, hunting, and had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening and sharing the harvest with his family and friends. Cooking was one of his many passions and always enjoyed a home cooked meal. His passion for food led him to come out of retirement at 78 where he and his wife Pat ran Mim and Pip's Hot Dog House in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan up until 2 weeks before his passing. He was famous for his "hot dog sauce" and he told customers he had the best "wieners" in town! Duck enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play hockey, basketball and all kinds of sports. He was an avid Michigan State football fan and his wife was a University of Michigan fan which made for some interesting conversations and a fun rivalry. Pat and Duck recently started attending St. Joesph's church after their move to the Soo, previously they were members of Holy Family Catholic Church, Barbeau, Michigan for 30 years and he loved his God, Jesus and faith and ended his conversations with "God Bless". Duck will be remembered for his love of family, quick wit, teasing and joking with anyone who would put up with him. ? He is survived by his wife Patricia, children Ranae Race and the late Bryan Race, Omaha, NE, Delrae Duvall, Virginia Beach, Virginia, Michele Callender and husband Dan, Rockford, MI, Clifton (Duck) DuVall and wife MaryJo, Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Michaun Johnson and husband Darius, LaVernia, TX, John DuVall and wife Amie, Strongs, MI, 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren whom he adored. A mass will be held on 8/27/16 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Barbeau, MI. Following will be a celebration of life at the VFW, Sault Ste. Marie, MI.
