Gordon Wallace McMillan

Gordon Wallace McMillan, 95 of Trout Lake passed away Feb. 27,2013 in Mesa, Arizona following a brief illness. He was born in Dick, Mi, on August 28,1916, a small lumbering and railroad siding 5 miles from his lifetime home. His parents were Ira and Lilly (Reed) McMillan.He had five brothers and one sister. On October 25,1938 he married the love of his life, Ida; and they enjoyed 67 years of marriage. She died in 2005. Gordon was an avid reader, outdoorsman and gardener. He loved to hunt, fish, and create beautiful gardens. He loved to share the fruits of his labor and when hunting season rolled aroud he especially enjoyed hosting deer camp for his sons and nephews. He was a life member of St.Ignace Masonic Lodge #369.and attended Grace Brethren Church on Ozark. Gordon lived most his life within 5 miles from his present home. He left the area for a short time around WWll and worked for Buick in Flint. He also worked for a company called STevens. He returned to the UP to farm and log. Upon retiring he started a large raspberry patch, which he kept going for 20 years. Gordon will be remembered for his kind and gentle ways. He lived his life to the fullest, and was a positive role model for his family. THere was always room for one more at his home and his table. He left his family with many wonderful memories. He is survived by his six children; Frank McMillan, Mesa, Arizona; Gordon and Loni McMillan, Seattle, Wash; Sandra and Abraham Perales Jr. Holland.MI; Leonard and Judy McMillan, Bonnie Lake, Wash.; Sherry and Lloyd Sherman, Cheyenne, Wyoming; Kim and Carl Hatch lll of Grand Haven, MI; extended family, Tom and Cheryl Rapson, Sault Ste. Marie; Colonel and Linda Lake, Durand; Elvis and Sue of Davison; one brother, Larry and Vicki McMillan, Colorado, Springs, Colo; 24 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren and his beloved dog, Simba. He was preceeded in death besides his wife Ida, 4 brothers, Lewis, Paul, Judd and Raymond, and his sister, Clara Baxter. Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 5 at 11 am at Dodson Funeral Home in ST.Ignace with Pastor Mike Lane officiating. Masonic graveside, services will be held at 1 pm in Trout Lake conducted by St.Ignace Lodge #369. F & AM. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 am to service time. a Luncheon will be at the Trout Lake Township Hall at 2.pm.
