Leonard \"Cap\" Tromblay

Leonard "Cap" Tromblay, 86 of Rudyard passed away Tuesday evening, January 6,2015 at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie. He was born in St.Ignace on December 3,1928 on Ellsworth Street to Captain Alexander A. and Hilda (Johnson) Tromblay. He graduated from LaSalle High School and entered the Korean War. On the G.I. Bill he received a degree from Ferris State University in Teaching,. He taught in Caro,MI for 3 years and then 2 years at Jackson Business University. In 1963 he answered an ad for a Business Teacher in Rudyard, and taught unril July 1,1989. He was one of the most loved teachers in the Rudyard System, and was very active in student affairs. He was very active in the Rudyard Lions Club, and was a bowler, and an active Horseshoe participant. There is a Horse shoe Tournament named in his honor in Rudyard. Cap is an Honorary Member of the St.Ignace Fire Department, as he entertained the annual dinner with his one liners and jokes for 32 years. There is a book being finished now about his jokes, and will be available in the spring of 2015. He wrote the book, and edited it's contents. He is a very active faithful member of St.Josephs Catholic Church in Rudyard and Knights of Columbus #10777 in Rudyard.. He has been a resident of McKinley Manor in Sault Ste. Marie the past 3 years, and will be sorely missed as he was the life of the "party". He married the love of his life, Carol in January, 1964 and she died at age 50 on August 27,1989. They made their home in St.Ignace until 1970 when they moved to Rudyard. He is survived by a son, Brian A. (Linda) of Safford,Arizona; a daughter, Jeananne M. (Brian) Trefil, Waterford, MI; his only sister, Mary Tromblay, St.Ignace; granddaughters, Megan (Adrian) Thomas; Regina Tromblay; Kaila Trefil, and Marissa Trefil. and a very special former stuident and friend, Chari Fischer, of Trout Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elinor (Ben) Kokko in 2010; and Sylvia Tromblay in 1961. Friends may call at Dodson Funeral Home, 240 McCann Street, St.Ignace on Sunday, January11 from 4 to 7 pm. Parish prayers will be at 7pm with Deacon Roger Bygrave officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rudyard at 11 am. with Fr. Joseph Vandannoor officiating. Visitation will be also 1 hour before Mass. Burial will be in North Rudyard Cemetery in the Spring.
