Dolores Marie Nettleton

Dolores Marie Nettleton, age 89, of Charlevoix, Michigan, formerly of Pickford, Michigan, died Monday, July 31, 2017, in Petoskey, Michigan. She was born August 13, 1927, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to Joseph Richard and Cora Ottie (Harrison) Rye. Dolores grew up in Pickford. After graduating from high school, she married Donald Robert Nettleton on April 3, 1945, while he was home on medical leave during his service in the United States Army. When he was discharged, they moved to a farm in Blairville, Michigan and together, they helped raise Don’s younger brothers in addition to raising their own five children. With their children almost grown, Dolores began working outside their home as a school bus driver and substitute mail carrier. Dolores was a member of the Pickford Presbyterian Church, member and officer of the VFW Auxiliary, and member and officer of the Eastern Star. One year, she was selected as Belle of Pickford Community Days. Dolores enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and quilting. She was an award-winning canner, baker, and cook, but was most famously known for her homemade hot mustard. She also enjoyed playing horse shoes, euchre, and bowling. Her most treasured time was spent with her family and she always got a twinkle in her eye when speaking of them or reminiscing of old times. Dolores is survived by her children, Gerald (Diane) Nettleton of DeTour Village, Michigan, Barbara (Ted) McGlinch of Charlevoix, Sandra (James) Spencer of Stalwart, Michigan, Danny (Cheryl) Nettleton of Pickford, and Vickie (Don) Resch of Charlevoix; grandchildren, Brian (Angela) Nettleton, Krista (Scott) Neels, Bradley McGlinch, Shane Nettleton, Jody (Jill) McGlinch, Trisha (David) Olach, Jeremy (Angie) Spencer, Kylie (Matt) Kaczmarczyk, Brandon (Kristin) Spencer, Danielle (Mark) Clegg, Justin (Amanda) Spencer, and Michelle (Andrew) Raden; great grandchildren, Samantha (Shawn) Hurlbert, Eden and Ava Nettleton, Ashley, Carley, and Ryeley McGlinch, Camden Musilik, Skyler and Carter McGlinch, Grace and Grant Neels, Kayley, Blake, Casey, Jordyn, and Mason Spencer, Braydee Raden, Connor, Chloe, and Carter Clegg, and Madison, Emily, Stephanie, Courtney Olach, Allison Kaczmarczyk, and Andrew Kaczmarczyk; and great great grandchildren, Hayleigh and Jameson Hurlbert. She is also survived by her niece, Coreen Pauley; nephew, Lyle Stevenson; sisters-in-law, Illa Mae Nettleton and Irene Nettleton. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; twin sister, Lois Gervin; and sister Violet Stevenson. Services will be held Monday, August 7th at R. Galer Funeral Home, 24549 S. M-129 in Pickford. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Jessica Paulsen conducting the service.
