Donald Samuel Cruickshank

Donald Samuel Cruickshank, age 68, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, went to see the Lord on Thursday, January 15, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born on February 10, 1946 in Sault Ste. Marie to Samuel and Violet U. (Bawks) Cruickshank. Donnie grew up in Pickford, Michigan and graduated from Pickford High School. He worked for Drummond Dolomite for several years. He married Kathryn Ann (Lapoint) Cruickshank on June 5, 1970 in DeTour, Michigan. For five years he lived in Detroit where he worked for T & M Ford Asphalt. Upon his return he then worked for Norris Construction where he was a foreman for many years before he retired in 2011. Donnie enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cooking. He loved spending time with his wife, Kathryn, and children. Nothing could bring a bigger smile to his face than his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Donnie is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Kathryn Cruickshank; sons, John (Kim) Peffers of Cedarville, Michigan; Samuel (Trish) Cruickshank of Sault Ste. Marie; daughters, Dawn Cruickshank of Sault Ste. Marie, Misty (Mark Lamb) Shaw of Pickford; grandchildren, Joie Peffers, Nathan Peffers, Samantha (Marc) Horka, Kimberly Cruickshank, Khloe Cruickshank, Jacob Farley, Jessy Farley, Kimberly Willis, Richard Willis, Anthony Franklin, Neveah Cruickshank, Trevor Shaw, Taylor Shaw; great-grandchildren, Troy McCord, Faith Horka; sisters, Theora Bosley of Stalwart, Michigan, Wanda (Vern) Sawyers of Sault Ste. Marie, Diane (John) Kane of Kincheloe, Michigan, Debbie Kelly of Pickford; sisters-in-law, Theresa LaPoint, Frances (Benny) Hank; brothers-in-law, Edward (Terry) LaPoint, Lawrence LaPoint, many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Matt McKelvie. Donnie is preceded in death by parents, Sam and Violet Cruickshank; mother-in-law, Victoria LaPoint; brothers-in-law, Ricky LaPoint, Robert Bosley, David Seward, and Joseph Kelly. Visitation will be held on January 19, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at R. Galer Funeral Home, 24549 S. M-129 in Pickford and January 20, 2015 from 10:00 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. with funeral services starting at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Kenn Filkins will be conducting the services.
