Wm. \"Chum\" Frazier

William J. "Chum" Frazier died at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital Sunday evening, January 15 following a short illness. He was born in Evergreen Shores, St.Ignace on March 25,1940 to Frederick J. and Mary Ellen (Struble) Frazier. He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1958 and entered the US Army, serviing during the Korean and Viet Nam Wars. He was always very active in sports at LaSalle High School, and was on the chain gang over 30 years at every football game. He also coached softball and baseball several years. He was a huge fan of St Ignace Saints Girls Basketball, and following his kids and grandkids in all sports. He loved to hunt and was a commercial fisherman at one time. He also had a sawmill, and worked in the woods, and loved woodworking.. He is known as a great story teller, . He loved to play golf, and was regular on the Tuesday morning senior mens league. He is a member of the St.Ignace Golf and Country Club; Sault Tribe Chippewa Indians, and St.Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church. He picked blueberries by the ton,with a freezer full every year, and had a special strawberry patch in the back yard. He retired from the Mackinac Bridge Authority after 30 years, and was Operations Manager at time of retirement. On April 20,1963 he married Nancy Brown in Greenville,TN, and she survives. also his family, Richie and Kathy, Tony and Kari, all of St.Ignace; Steven and Diane of Parrottsville,TN; Jason and Regina of St.Ignace; Nicole and Matthew Price of Traverse City; brother, Joe and Dee Frazier, Brevort Lake; sisters, Bertha Mae Wiertalla, St.Ignace; Joan and Leonard Herman, Suttons Bay; Mary E. and Dale Streichert, Cedarville; Ann and Rich Haske, Cedarville; daughter in law, Amy Weber in Wisconsin;grandchildren, Alysha, Travis, Justen, Aaron, Bryce, Hunter, Abigail, Jesse, Tabitha, Kayla, and Kenzie. And also a special friend, Gene Massey.. He was preceeded in death by his parents, sons", Billy Joe" in 1991 and an infant son, William John. Mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday morning, January 19 at 11 am at St.ignatius Church with Fr.Pawel Mecwel and Msgr. Peter Oberto officiating. Burial will be in Epoufette Cemetery in the spring.Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon from 4 to 8 pm at Dodson Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be at 8 pm. Dodson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Pallbearers will be Gene Massey, Dan Yake, Bob Frazier, Greg Frazier, Tom Alkire, Bob and John Haske, Mike Wiertalla, Duane Herman; honorary pallbearers are Leonard Valentine, Chuck Kingsbury, Bucky McPhee, Paul Ryerse, Russ Caskey, Arnie Frazier.
