Percy J. Martineau

Percy John Martineau, 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 28, 2013 at his daughter's home in Holt Michigan. Born November 3, 1923 to Burton and Irene Martineau in St. Ignace, Michigan married Doris Paquin of St. Ignace, Michigan who passed away in 1976, and later married Leona Johnson, deceased 2005. Percy is survived by his son Brunell Martineau of Port St. Lucie Forida, Anne Cowell of St. Ignace, Michigan, Mary Calcatera, Holt, Michigan and Cherie Leece of Williamston Michigan. We will remember his example of stoic and dignified perseverance and strength, in the face of devastating family challenges, as he was preceded in death by sons John Martineau, Andre Martineau and two wives. His legacy of service to community and family continues in his grandchildren who are providing services to the community in the military, medicine, business ownership, and academia. Our father will always remain in our memories as an example of familial devotion, hard work, and loyalty to his loved ones. Everything he produced he shared; he kept very little for himself. The rewards of his labor were always shared with his family, and his entire life was a selfish devotion to others with greater need. He kept little and shared much. After a long day at his job, his work day didn't end. It was frequently extended with gardening, home repairs for family and offers throughout the community. As free citizens of the United States, we owe Percy and all veterans a great debt of gratitude for their sacrifice and service in confronting threats to our freedom. Percy proudly served as a US Army sergeant, in the Pacific theater during WWII from 1942 to 1945. He enjoyed the fraternity of fellow patriots as a member of the VFW. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Eaton Community Palliative Care, 2675 South Cochran, Charlotte, MI, 48813, or the Parkinson Foundation. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Great Lakes Hospice of Lansing Michigan, who provided sensitive, quality support to both Percy and family during his final challenge. Services were held Saturday, November 2, 2013, at 12 noon at St. Ignataus Catholic Church with burial in the Church Cemetery. Dodson Funeral Home, St. Ignace, assisted the family.
