Dorothy Mary Potwardski

Dorothy Mary Potwardski, 95, of Goetzville, Michigan, died on June 16, 2016 at Sunrise on Vernier in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. Dorothy was born June 2, 1921 in Rudyard, Michigan, to Xavier (Joe) and Eglantine (Le Gault) Paquette, the tenth of eleven children. After her father passed away, Dorothy and her mother moved to Sault Ste. Marie. She attended Sault High, where she graduated in 1939. In 1950, she married Leon Potwardski of Goetzville and together they had six children. Dorothy enjoyed baking, and crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Raber Amvets Auxiliary and an active member of St. Stanislaus Kostka parish in Goetzville. She enjoyed entertaining her family and friends with an extensive list of jokes. She was a huge fan of the Lawrence Welk Show watching the episodes many times over. Dorothy is survived by sons, Paul (Marianna) Potwardski of Queens, New York, Roger Potwardski of Goetzville, Thomas Potwardski of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, and Gregory Potwardski of St. Clair Shores, Michigan; daughters, Annette Lang of St. Clair Shores, and Yvonne Bloise (Michael) of Longmont, Colorado; grandchildren, Nicole (Richard) Lang White of Virginia Beach, Melissa and Michael Potwardski of Queens, Katherine and Jessica Bloise of Longmont, Colorado; great granddaughters, Charlotte and Madeline White of Virginia Beach; sister-in-law, Marie (Edmund) Paquette of Sault Ste. Marie; brothers-in-law, Edward (Jeri) Potwardowski of Eastpointe, Michigan, and Joseph Potwardowski of Goetzville; sister-in-law, Cecile Meyer of Fort Collins, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, Leon; brothers, Fred, Henry, Leo, and Edmund Paquette; sisters, Bertha Desrochers, Alma Mayer, Mary Bourque, Clara Stevens, Elizabeth Batdorff, and Agnes Maki. A viewing and funeral mass will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 18 at St. Joan of Arc, 22145 Overlake Street, St. Clair Shores. Additional viewing will begin at 9:00 A.M. on Monday, June 20, at R. Galer Funeral Home, 24549 S. M-129, in Pickford, Michigan. A procession from the funeral home to St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Goetzville will begin at 9:45 A.M. with graveside service and burial at the cemetery at 10:30 A.M.
