Edwin Don Howe

Edwin “Don” Howe, age 85, of St. Ignace, Michigan, died on October 3, 2025, at his home. He was born on September 25, 1940, in Peoria, Illinois, to Lowell and Myrne (Smith) Howe. Don grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and graduated from Roosevelt High School with the Class of 1959. A lifelong lover of sports, Don turned his passion into a career as a sports announcer, where his rich voice and deep knowledge of the games made him a familiar and trusted presence to many listeners over the years. On September 19, 1992, Don married the love of his life, Alice Lee Howe. Together they shared many wonderful years until her passing. Don continued his broadcasting career in the local area for many years and became especially known for his dedication to announcing high school sports. Don shared a special bond with his twin brother, Alan “Dean” Howe, who was a talented sportswriter. The two were inseparable growing up and together became walking, talking encyclopedias of sports and film trivia. Don could recall scores, statistics, and movie details with ease, always eager to share a story or spark a lively debate. In his later years, Don made his home in St. Ignace, where he enjoyed the quiet pace of life in the Upper Peninsula, the beauty of Lake Huron, and the companionship of neighbors and friends. Don was a member of the Saint Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church. Don is survived by his three biological children; stepchildren, Jimmy (Sheri) Lee, Ronnie Lee, Bobby Lee, Timmy (Diana) Lee, and Tammy Lee; step son-in-law, David Litzner; sixteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sisters, Maurine Mattingly, Judy (Peter) Clark, and Jane (Roy) Corwin; and great friends, John Mckinnon and Jim Fuller. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; stepchildren, Mike Lee, Angela Lee, and Pat Lee; step-granddaughter, Trisha Litzner; parents, Lowell and Myrne; brother, Alan Dean Howe; and brother-in-law, William Mattingly.
