Forrest Jones Ledy

Forrest Jones Ledy, age 102, of Drummond Island, Michigan, went to be with his heavenly Father on Friday, April 10, 2020 at his home on Drummond Island. He was born September 27, 1917 of the late Franklin Henry Benjamin Ledy and the late Candace Evelyn (Anderson) Ledy on Drummond Island. Forrest was a lifelong member of the Drummond Island Congregational Church. He sang in the adult choir and served as Sunday School Superintendent. Forrest retired from the Drummond Island Quarry, where he worked for over 40 years. He had the first TV and appliance store on Drummond Island. He was also a mail carrier for the USPS for many years. He was one of the founding members of the DeTour Drummond Community Credit Union and served on the board for many years. Forrest was active in his community and organized and oversaw the lighting of the Fourth of July Fireworks for over 50 years. Forrest was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed participating in sports in his younger days, eventually watching his children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren in various sports. Most of all, Forrest enjoyed spending time with his family, this included making maple syrup, morel picking, hunting, fishing, playing dominoes and "Rook". Forrest lived a wonderful long life, which at times was hard and touched with sorrow, but the love he had for his family and his faith are what sustained him. Forrest is survived by his son, Darrel (Sandra) Ledy of Drummond Island; daughter, Gail Ledy of Drummond Island; daughter-in-law, Mary (Tellefsen) Ledy of Freeland; grandchildren, Jeff (Sharon) Ledy, Jeanne (Clay) Umberfield, Jon (Beth) Ledy, Jana (Craig) Clark, Heidi (Dave) Kanouse, Erica Ledy, Richard (Morri) Ledy, and Britta (Kirk) Astle; great-grandchildren, Erin (Brian) Elve, Eric (Elizabeth) Ledy, Elyse (Grant) Maurer, Kevan (Mandy) Umberfield, Scott (Elizabeth) Umberfield, Drew Umberfield, Derek (Lindsey) Ledy, Kyle Ledy (July 23, 1990 - April 25, 2020), Brandon (Aubree) Clark, Kacy Clark, Rhiar Kanouse, Gabriel Kanouse, Jonas Kanouse, Rowin Ledy, Tatum Ledy, Richard Ledy II, Jade Ledy, Cullen Ledy, Terese Ledy, Avery Ledy, Darrel Lee (Jonathon) Anthon, Sawyer Astle, and Soren Astle; great-great-grandchildren, Josephine Elve, Elias Umberfield, Henry Umberfield, Lily Ledy, Wyatt Ledy, Huron Anthon, and Reverie Anthon; brother, Delbert "Sam" Ledy; sister, Pansy Gore; sister-in-law, Betty Ledy; and many nieces and nephews. Forrest is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Genevieve Mae Ledy and his second wife Mamie Palmer Ledy; son, Duane Franklin Ledy; grandsons, Randy Scott Ledy Gochnour and Forrest Scott Ledy; brothers, Clayton Ledy, Lawrence (Lillian) Ledy, Milton "Bing" (Demarius) Ledy; brother-in-law, Courtland Gore; and sister-in-law, Donna Ledy. A funeral service will be held at the Drummond Island Lighthouse church on Friday, July 3rd at 1pm. Please bring a chair for an outdoor service. Mask wearing is appreciated.
