Frank A. Porcaro, Sr.

Frank Anthony Porcaro Sr. on Thursday, December 21, 2017, Frank began his journey back home. Born June 13, 1931 in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan to Eugene and Rose (Mancuso) Porcaro. Growing up in Sault Sainte Marie on the river Frank nurtured his love for the Great Ships that he would see each day of his life. Right out of high school he took a job with the Army Corp of Engineers where he worked at the Soo Locks. Shortly after he took a position with the Freighters, working on the open Lakes. This was the beginning of a very long career on the water for Frank. In 1950, during the Korean War, Frank served with the 1437th Engineer Treadway Bridge Company. After the Korean War ended Frank retired from the Army to join the United States Coast Guard, retiring as a Senior Chief after 25 years of service. During his Coast Guard career he travelled abroad and was stationed in Texas and Massachusetts before retiring and settling in Maine with his first wife; Barbara and their 3 children. After her death in 1986 Frank returned to Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan in 1988. He then married a dear old friend, June Curran. Frank spent his life on the water and often told great stories about his travels on the seas. He was known by all as a soft spoken, gentle, honorable and kind man. Frank leaves behind daughters Lisa (Mike) Phillips of Topsham ME and Gina (Ernest) Roberts of Gorham, ME and a son Frank Porcaro Jr., of Boylston MA, Step-daughters; Renee (Herman) Calkins of Kincheloe MI, Rainella (Arty) LaPonsie, Raela (Ron) Green, Patty (Scott) Curran, and step-sons; Randy (Denise) Gordon, Frank Gordon, and Robert Gordon all of Sault Sainte. Marie, MI. Frank also has several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Frank is predeceased in death by his parents, both of his wives, both of his brothers, (Joseph and Junior), a grandson and granddaughter. Visitation will be held 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday December 27, 2017 at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 7:00pm Wednesday December 27, 2017 at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home with Brother John Hascall officiating.
