George Kent Logan

George Kent Logan, 70, of Kinross, passed away at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer on November 19, 2015. George was born in Claremore, Oklahoma to Amos and Alice (Moore) Logan on January 13, 1945 and was big brother to Violet "Ellen" (Logan) Carrick. George graduated from Brimley High School in 1963 and still holds the conference long jump record; attended Michigan Technological College Sault Branch on a basketball scholarship and enlisted in the United States Air Force January 1966 through May 1969 serving in Vietnam in DaNang. He went on to work for Algoma Tube in Dafter, Mi in 1972 and worked there for 17 years. He went on to work for the Department of Corrections as a Corrections Officer in 1987 until he retired in 2004. George enjoyed tinkering in the garage, restoring tractors, playing softball, snowmobiling, camping and vacationing with family and friends; but he most cherished the many tractor pulls he participated in with all his Grandchildren. George is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Judith Ann (Brown) and children, Lisa (Richard Lightfoot) Basner of Harbor Springs, MI; David (Cathy) Logan of Genessee, MI and Jennifer (Johnny) Harrison of Pickford, MI; five Grandchildren, Chad Chandler, Chase Teeple, Megan and Brennan Logan and Zachary Harrison and three Great Grandchildren, MacKenzie, Sadie and Lexxi. He is further survived by Brother in-law Donald Carrick, Sr. and children Beverly Carrick, Sheri (Jeff) Graham, Donald Carrick, Jr., Debra (Jim) Wilson and Robert Carrick all of Brimley; Sister in-law Mary (Dane) Abosso of Colorado and children Leah, Corey and Kathryn; Brother in-law Mark Brown's children Jamie and Jeremy and Brother in-law Warren "Dick" Brown's children Cheryl and Christopher; 33 Great Nieces and Nephews, 2 Great Great Nieces, 1 Great Great Nephew and many cousins. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sister, Ellen Carrick; Mother in-law, Elizabeth Assmann; Father in-law, Elmer Brown and Brother in-law's, Mark and Warren "Dick" Brown. The family would like to thank Dr. Chander, Jeanne Melton, Dr. Hire and Pastor Lamb for all their support. Visitation will take place on Sunday, November 22nd, 7-9 p.m., at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home in Sault Ste. Marie. A funeral service will take place on Monday, November 23rd, 11:00 a.m., at St. James Lutheran Church in Rudyard with Pastor Matt Lamb officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to EUP Home Health and Hospice or EUP Road to Recovery in his memory.
