Georgeanna Plont

Georgeanna Hartwell Thompson Plont died December 18, 2017, following her yearlong battle with cancer, at her home in Pickford, Michigan. Georgeanna was born to William Henry and Lillian Mae Hartwell on June 21, 1942 in St. Ignace, Michigan. Georgeanna grew up in St. Ignace and attended school there. After school, she married Paul Mastaw and they started their family. Paul died of diabetes complications when he was only 26 years old. Georgeanna and her three children moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan for several years. She married Howard Thompson in 1963 and they lived in Pickford and raised their eight children. Howard died in 2008. Georgeanna married Michael Plont in 2010 and they continued to live in Pickford. During her life, when Georeanna wasn’t raising her kids, she worked in the woods at logging camps and cleaned cabins at Spring Lodge. She was proud of completing her high school diploma with adult education. She liked to spend time at the casino and enjoyed gardening and doing things that kept her mind sharp. She especially liked to have all of her family home for holidays and to spend time with her grandkids. Georgeanna was a member of the Pickford Church of the Nazarene. Georgeanna is survived by her husband, Michael Plont; daughters, Phyllis Thompson of Kincheloe, Michigan, Ruth Mastaw of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Barb Patrick of Hessel, Michigan; Joann (Earl) Pomeroy of Rudyard, Michigan, Paula Thompson of Kinross, and Susan Thompson of Pickford; sons, Paul Thompson of Pickford, Michigan, and Francis Thompson of St. Louis, Michigan; nineteen grandchildren; and thirty six great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren. Georgeanna is preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Mastaw; and second husband, Howard Thompson; mother, Lillian Hartwell. Services for Georgeanna will be on Wednesday December 27, 2017 at R. Galer funeral home, 24549 S. M-129, Pickford, Michigan. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Funeral Service will begin at 4:00 p.m. and will be officiated by Reverend Craig Weihman. Burial will be in the spring at Bethel Cemetery in Pickford Township. R. Galer Funeral Home in Pickford, Michigan is serving the family.
