Gerald Bennett

Gerald Bennett, age 64, of Goetzville, Michigan, died on August 17, 2017, at his home. He was born on May 30, 1953, in Cedarville, Michigan to Thomas Melvin and Eva Mariah (Hiser) Bennett. Gerald grew up in Cedarville and graduated from Cedarville High School with the class of 1972. After graduating, he began working for his brother in his dry walling company for several years. He then completed correctional classes and worked for Mackinac County as a jailer for 25 years. After retiring, from Mackinac County, he worked for Bennett & Son Logging. Gerald was a member of the Raber Sportsman’s Club. Gerald enjoyed camping, hunting, and boating. He was an avid cook who was locally famous for his pig roasts and grilling. He was always the jokester, playing pranks on anyone. He loved to be with his family and around people just talking. Gerald is survived by his girlfriend of 29 years, Kathleen Wheeler of Goetzville; children, Todd (Andrea) Bennett of Saudi Arabia and Angela (Victor) Merchand of Pickford, Michigan; grandchildren, Jordan Bennett, Dakota Bennett, Montana Bennett, Troy Bennett, Sabina Merchand, Eva Merchand, and a grandchild on the way; sisters, Helen Spencer of Texas, Merrial (Chester) Kasper of Cedarville, Carol (Jim) Cryderman of Cedarville, Rhoda (Bill) Beacom of Pickford, and twin Geraldine LaPrairie of Oklahoma; brothers, Clayton (Alice) Bennett of St. Ignace, Michigan and Ralph (Karen) Bennett of DeTour, Michigan; sister-in-law, Nancy Bennett; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and great great nieces and great great nephews; Kathy’s family, Jackie O'lear of Goetzville, Thomas O'lear of Goetzville, Patricia (Keith) Herman of Warren, Michigan, Timothy O'lear of Utica, Michigan, and Linda O'lear of Utica. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Harriet Bennett and Sylvia Coveyou; brother, Thomas Bennett; and nephew, Shawn LaPrairie. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 2, starting at 3:00 P.M. at the Stalwart Fairgrounds in Stalwart, Michigan.. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Pickford Township, Michigan.
