Grant A. Patton

Grant Aymor Patton, age 85, of Brimley, Michigan passed away Monday evening, January 14, 2013 at War Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. Grant was born November 1, 1927 in Brimley, Michigan to the late Reno and Beulah (Smith) Patton. He was a graduated from Superior High School. On June 12, 1954, he married Sylvia Johnson in Rudyard, Michigan. He was a dairy farmer who built his original 20 acre farm into the 500 acre farm it is today. He was an excellent mechanic and welder. He was an avid reader who could fix anything and for years had some of his creations working at the farm, like his half car/ half tractor. He was honest and friendly and loved helping others. He was the kind of man that only required a handshake. Grant was a excellent provider and teacher to his children. Grant was a member of Farm Bureau, Michigan Milk Producers, and the Brimley Congregational Church. He was a past supervisor of Superior Township. Grant is survived by three daughters: Doreen (Carl) Shaffer of Allegan, MI, Cynthia (David) Hyde of Sault Ste. Marie, MI and Carla (David) Matheny of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; three sons: Larry Patton of Dafter, MI, Drew (Sharon) Patton of Melrose, FL, and Tim Patton of Brimley, MI; grandchildren: Tanya (Carl) McPherson, Andy Shaffer, Miala Hyde, Christopher (Christa) Matheny, Cynthia (Chris) Pittman, Nathan Matheny, Kristina Matheny, Stacy (Tommy) Files, Justin (Sara) Bryant and Wayne Bryant. Grant is also survived by several great-grandchildren, a sister: Avis Alcorn of Brimley, MI; a brother: Clare (Louine) Patton of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Grant was preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Sylvia Patton; an infant daughter: Maxine Patton; a sister: Wilda (James) Edward; a brother: Heber (Nancy) Patton; and a brother-in-law: Orvan Alcorn. A time of gathering to celebrate the life of Grant Patton will be held on Friday, January 18, 2013 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the First Congregational Church of Brimley. A Memorial Service will begin at 3:00 PM with Pastor Rod Case officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the family to help with funeral expenses.
