Gregory Hall Sparkman

Gregory Hall Sparkman of Pickford, Michigan, died on June 17, 2023, at the White-Wiles Home at the age of 75 years old. He was born on August 16, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, to Hall Thaddeus and Helen (Wightman) Sparkman. Gregory grew up in Algonac, Michigan, and graduated from Algonac High School. He then went on to join the United States Army. He married the love of his life, Mary Frances Heraty, in Port Huron, Michigan, on May 13, 1969. They then began their family and moved to the Algonac Area. After leaving the Army, he worked at Wrigley’s Foods as a meat cutter for the next ten years. They moved to Cheboygan, Michigan, where he worked as a supervisor in the meat department at B&C Grocery and then later opened his gun shop in Kincheloe, Michigan, in 1979. He opened various contracting businesses over the years and did maintenance at Cedar Grove Estates. In 1986, He became a Correctional Officer and worked a fulfilling career at the local correctional facility until his retirement. Gregory was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers. Gregory enjoyed fishing, hunting, and boating on the great lakes and 4-wheeling. One of his favorite pastimes was going golfing with Mary. Gregory is survived by his wife, Mary of Pickford; sons, Eric (Julie) Sparkman of Louisville, Kentucky, and Kurt (Heidi) Sparkman of St. Joseph, Michigan; grandchildren, Shane Sparkman, Matthew Sparkman, Nathanial Sparkman, Ashlyn Icenhower, Audrey Icenhower, Brandon Maahs, and Dalton Maahs; great-grandchildren, Anastasia, Makeni, and Natalie; brother-in-law, Richard (Christine) Heraty of Farmington Hills, Michigan; sister-in-law, Debra Heraty of St. Clair, Michigan, as well as nieces, a nephew and several cousins. Gregory was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Teresa (Paul) Minnich; and brother-in-law, William Heraty, A Memorial Gathering will be held at Galer Funeral Homes in Pickford, Michigan on June 23, 2023, from 2:00PM – 5:00PM.
