Helen Margaret Fitz April 11, 1945 - October 6, 2022It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Margaret Fitz, 77, currently of Sugar Island, Michigan (but she lived in many states and countries). She passed peacefully with her loved ones on October 6, 2022 at 12:45 pm after a long battle with cancer. Helen was born to Manford and Dorothy Kirton on April 11, 1945. Helen met the man of her dreams, David LeRoy Fitz, Sr, when she was a junior at Grandville High School. Helen and David were wed on February 8, 1964. Her and David travelled the world due to their service to the United States Air Force. Helen loved cooking big meals and feeding people. She enjoyed baking cookies and having cocktails with friends and loved ones. She was incredibly creative and loved making gifts for people. She also loved quilting. Her favorite past time was spending time with her husband fishing and often out-fished him. Helen was a business woman and was VP of Warren Schools Credit Union in Warren, Michigan when she retired. She went back to work for St. Scholastica Academy, an all girls international boarding school in Canon City, Colorado as the Director of Development. After her second retirement, she spent time volunteering for Hospice in Penrose, Colorado. Her love for family was deep and felt by any who met her. She always had the words to help with any situation. She always encouraged her family to be the best version of themselves. She was always there with an ear and had many one liners that reminded us how to handle things such as "God never gives you more than you can handle", "Inch by inch it's a cinch", "You have to work at marriage every day". The last one was something she truly believed in and that is evident by the fact that her and David remained a couple and very much in love for almost 60 years. She was the glue that kept us all together. She was a pillar of our family and embraced opportunities to spend time with us. If there was any contention, she was the peacekeeper, counselor, and advice giver. She believed in the bonds of family and was always ready with a hug. Helen is survived by her husband, partner in crime, and love of her life; David and their three children; David L. Fitz, Jr. and his wife, Jan M. Fitz, James A. Fitz, Sr. and his wife, Kelley A. Fitz, and Rebecca A. Randazzo and her husband, Joseph S. Randazzo. Her grandchildren; Nathan D. Fitz, Ryan A. Fitz, Kelsey A. Grove Cassandra M. Christensen, Jacquline M. Holt, James A. Fitz, Jr., Dillon R. Fitz, Jonathan D. Clement, Britney L. Clement, Dani K. Korcal, Lukas R. Randazzo, her 16 great-grandchildren, her sister Jeanette Tinker and her family, and her brother Terry Kirton and his family. Please join us in celebration of Helen's life at the Christopher Columbus Hall at 201 Sheridan Drive, Sault Ste. Marie, MI on October 22, 2022 from 2-5 pm.
