William \"Matt\" Bazinau

William "Matt" Bazinau, 42 of Mackinac Island died Monday afternoon, January 10 at his home on the Island.following a long bout of cancer. He was born on Mackinac on March 24,1968. His parents were Wm "Randy" Bazinau and Faye Lorraine Cowell Bazinau. He graduated from Mackinac Island Schools in 1986. He was a well known horseman on the island all his life, working for Mackinac Island Carriage Tours, Mission Point resort and the State Park, and for many years for Cindy\'s Riding Stable ,Dale Gough...He was a trail guide many years on Mackinac Island. He loved his dogs, horses, snowmobiles, hunting and fishing; and had many good friends on the island. He was most proud of helping to raise 2 girls, Mackenzie and Hailey Bean. He was greatful to Kittie & Cub Horn and Gwen Bagby for their help in raising him and his siblings when his Dad was a single parent. He always said it takes a village to raise kids !!! He is survived by his family; sister, Tonya Bazinau, Kalamazoo; brother, Alex (Kathleen) Bazinau, Sault Ste. Marie; daughter, Crysta Cowell, St.Ignace; son, Jason Robinson, Grand Rapids; mother, Faye Queen, in Georgia; grandparents, Robert "Porky" and Caroline LaPine, Mackinac Island; George & Edna Cowell, Trenton;many aunts, uncles, and all his nephews annd nieces and cousins called him "Uncle Matt. Also special friend, Lee Hake. He was preceeded in death by his father, Randy Bazinau in an accident on the ice. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 12 from 5 to 7 pm at Dodson Funeral Home, St.Ignace. Visitation then will be on Thursday, January 13 after 2 pm at Ste. Anne\'s Catholic Church on Mackinac island. Mass of Christian burial will be on Friday, January 14 at 12 noon at Ste. Anne\'s Church with Fr. Jim Williams officiating. Burial will be in Ste. Anne\'s Cemetery on the Island. A snowmolile funeral procession will take Matt to the cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family with envelopes availabe from Dodson Funeral Home who assisted with arrangements. On line condolances may be directed to www.dodsonfh.com.
