Shirley \"Mickey\" Horn

Shirley "Mickey" Horn, 82 of Mackinac Island passed away Thursday morning, March 6 at the home of her daughter on Chambers Street in St.Ignace. She was born on Mackinac Island on April 18,1931 to Levi and Susan (Andress) LaPine. She married Armand "Smi" Horn on April 17,1950 on the Island. She was a homemaker and also worked for Ty\'s Restaurant and for Candi Horn at the Harrisonville General Store, and was a favorite baby sitter for many. She is an Elder with the Sault Tribe Chippewa Indians, and a member of Ste Annes Catholic Church on Mackinac Island. She loved her f amily, her children and grandchildren and was a regular bingo player at Brimley, Cheboygan and Indian River, and also loved Yahtzee.. Mickey was a very loving and friendly lady, and loved the Casino. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her.., and was a prominent figure on Mackinac Island. in a quiet way. She is survived by her husband Armand " Smi" Horn; sons, James and Colleen Horn, Hessel; Lyle and Janetta Horn, Denver, Colorado; Calvin "Cubby" and Kitty Horn, Mackinac Island; daughters, Mila Horn, St.Ignace; Patricia "Squeak" Horn, St.Ignace; Melinda and Matt Porter, Harbor Springs; a brother, Robert "Porky" and Caroline LaPine, Mackinac Island; 17 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by a son, Armond Jr. on January 4,1976; siblings, John Francis(Skeezik), Wilson; Joseph; (Ikey); George; (Black Strap) Mandy; Pecky; and Patsy; and close friends Mary Fisher and Delia Perault. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 11 at Dodson Funeral Home, St.Ignace at 3 pm with Fr. Jim Williams officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 pm. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at Ste. Annes Catholic Church on Mackinac Island at 11 am with Fr. Pawel Mecwel and Fr. Ted Brodeur offiating. Burial will be in Ste Annes Cemetery at a later date. Memorial may be directed to the Mackinac Island Medical Center or the Oncology Dept. at Mackinac Straits Hospital with envelopes available from Dodson Funeral Home, who assisted with arrangements.
