Janet Anderson

Jan went to meet her Lord and Savior Friday March 31st, 2023, peacefully at the Ball Hospice House in Sault Ste. Marie, MI after a two-and-a-half-year battle with Parkinson's disease. Jan was born October 1st 1939 to Carl and Margaret (Swanson) Olson in Ishpeming Michigan. Jan graduated from Manistique High School in 1957. She graduated from Northern Michigan University in 1961 with a BA in elementary education and later earned a MA in English. Jan enjoyed teaching elementary school in Sault Ste. Marie. In addition, she was part of implementing the Reading Recovery Program. Jan was very involved at the Wesleyan Church when it was on Easterday Ave. She was the church secretary, a Sunday school teacher, and in charge of the prayer chain for many years. She was also a legal transcriptionist while raising her children. Jan met Neil Anderson at Northern Michigan University and wed on April 6th, 1963, in Trenary Michigan. They raised two children, Michelle (Richard Hank Jr.) Anderson and Allan (Kristie Marble) Anderson. She had four grandchildren, Sydney Hank, Allie Anderson, Lauren Anderson, and Trevor Anderson. Jans hobbies included reading, bible study, knitting, playing the piano, making greeting cards, planting flowers and tending to her flower gardens. She hosted a weekly 'grand kid night' serving grand meals and spending quality time with her grandchildren. She was a very positive influence in all of their lives. She was famous for making her 'hot' ham & cheese sandwiches, and homemade spaghetti sauce and meatballs. Later in her life, Jan was part of the Calvary Baptist Church and mailed beautiful hand made cards out to the whole organization for special occasions. Carl and Margaret Olson passed down a family cabin to Jan that is located in the middle of the woods in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It is a wonderful quiet place that she and her family have enjoyed and will continue to enjoy for the years to come. She was fortunate enough to spend a whole month there in the summer for the last few years with many family members and close friends. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday April 6th, 2023, at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home. Friends may gather that same day at the funeral home starting at 10:00 AM. Memorials can be left to Hospice of the EUP or Chippewa County Animal Shelter.
