Rosalie \"Betty\" O\'.Brien

Rosalie Elizabeth "Betty" O'Brien, 72 of Mackinaw City passed away Saturday afternoon, October 18 peacefully at her home folllowing a year long battle with cancer. She was born in Cheboygan, February 23,1942 to Kashamer J. and Virginia R. (Socolovitch) Tryban. She graduated from Cheboygan High School and attended college 2 years. She married Jerry G. O'Brien on February 7,1964 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Riggsville. Jerry died in 1986. They operated the O'Brien Golf Course in Mackinaw and also the O'Brien Shirt Shop and Gifts Store, since 1966, and the store still in operation today. Betty was very involved in AA and was recognized for 28 years of helping many many people, and many say they owe their lives to her help.She was the Secretary at the High School a short time, and operated the shirt shop until poor health kept her from day to day operation just recently. She loved flowers, and the beautiful view out her front window of Lake Huron. She and her husband spent winters in Florida many years, and she continued to travel including this last year. She was an active member of St Anthony Catholic Church in Mackinaw City. She is survived by her children; Susan (Matt) Yoder, Mackinaw City; Julius (Heather) O'Brien, Mackinaw City; her mother, Virginia Tryban, Riggsville; two brothers, Robert Tryban, Riggsville; Casimir Jr.(Pat) Tryban, Riggsville; six sisters, Dianne (Jim)Myers, Mullett Lake; Patty (Dan) Jarzabkowski, Mullett Lake; Kristine (David) Bailey, Cheboygan; Judy Wanke, Cheboygan; Suzanne (Bill) Matteson, Petoskey; Mary Lou (Wayne) Littrell, Cheboygan; Mother in law, Dorothy O'Brien, Suttons Bay;sister in law, Bonnie (Ike) Melleno, Gill Lake,MI; Brother in law, Terry Ellis; four grandchildren, Brooke and Blaine Yoder, Kash and Kal O'Brien. She was preceded in death by her father, Kash Tryban; father in law, Julius O'Brian ;sister, Jeanne Ellis; brother in law, Amiel Wanke, and a nephew Robbie Tryban and a nephew Mike Mellema.. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 21 at 11 am at St.Anthony of Pedua Catholic Church in Mackinaw City with Fr. Paul Megge and Sister Chris Herald officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery beside her husband. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 to service time on Tuesday, Those wishing to remember Betty with Memorials may do so by giving to St.Anthony Churvh or Hospice of the Straits with envelopes available from Dodson Funeral Home, 240 McCann Street, St.Ignace who assisted the family with arrangements.
