John Bonacci

Sadly today we note the passing of J.B. a�" Giovanni, John Bonacci, loving brother, uncle and friend. John was born April 6, 1934 in Sault Ste Marie the son of Joseph and Angela (Piromalli) Bonacci. JB attended Sault High School where he was a sprinter on the track team, and student manager for the basketball team, he graduated in June of 1953. In 1953 John joined the United States Coast Guard; he served until he was injured in 1955. As a result of his injury John would be in a wheel chair the rest of his life. John attended the Michigan Rehabilitation institute and graduated there in June of 1962. He worked for War Memorial Hospital, and later Data Control. JB''s injury never slowed him down. JB went to hunting camp, snowmobiled, and traveled. Among many things, he liked to garden, antique cars, the St Ignace Auto show, going to the casino and decorating his house for the holidays, he loved the 4th of July and fireworks at Brady park. JB loved Family dinners, being at the cabin, playing 31 and freighter watching (napping) on the shore of the St Mary''s River. He also loved sports, especially Laker Hockey, Sault High sports and Uof M football. JB loved going to dinner with Bob and Jeanie and the rest of his dinner club. He loved to visit and take drives in his van with his "special buddy" Tim Darr. JB had great faith and was a lifelong member of St Joseph Church in the Sault. John is survived by his Sister and companion - JoAnn Bonacci, his sister Patricia Claxton and his brother in law Henry Norvell all from the Sault, his nieces and nephews; Cheryl (Mike) Cardamoni of Holt MI, John(Lisa) Claxton of Wyandotte MI, Kimberly (Mark) Samuelson of Ypsilanti, Joe(Joan) Claxton of the Sault and Jim Claxton of Monocle Lake. Also surviving are his great nieces and nephews a�" Emily, Laura & Julia Samuelson a�"Jeana & Jake Claxton a�" Charlie, Jeffrey & Annie Claxton. John was preceded in death by his mother and father, Joseph and Angela (Piromalli) Bonacci, his sister Ruth Norvell and his brother a�"in- law Col. Charles P. Claxton. Visitation will be at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home, Wednesday September 21st from 5:00pm to 8:00pm with prayers at 7:30pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday September 22nd at St Joseph''s Catholic Church at 11:00am with Father Pawel Mecwel and Deacon Bill Piche as celebrants. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to St. Joseph''s Church or Sault High School Sports.
