Janice Mary Werkheiser

Janice Mary Werkheiser, 66 of Evergreen Shores, St.Ignace passed away Saturday evening, August 9 at her home surrounded by her loving children and husband. Janice was born March 1,1948 in St.Ignace to Philip and Esther (Becker) Belonga. Her grandparents were Conrad and Louise Becker and Alec and Jennie Belonga, all of St.Ignace. Janice attended Ursuline Academy and graduated from LaSalle High School, class of 1967. Known as one of the Belonga sisters, she had 9 siblings, Nedra, Ronald, Phiylis, Dale, Billy, Patti, Joan, Judy, and Michael. On October 21,1967 she married Alan (Satch) Werkheiser of the U.S.Air Force. Satch and Janice spent the majority of their lives living in an "always Growing" house in Evergreen Shores.. They had five children, Lisa, Jody, Lori, Heather, and Jeremy. As time went on they were blessed with 14 grandchildren, and a great grandchild. Because her children were her always her top priority, she chose to stay at home and care for them, She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was always ready for a cup of tea and a visit. She is survived by her husband, Alan "Satch"; and children; Lisa and Bill Kemeny of Ortonville; Jody and Lisa Werkheiser, Flat Rock; Lori and Don Cassler, in Pennsylania; Heather and Paul Matelski of Naples, Italy;J eremy and Leslie Werkheiser, St.Ignace. She is survived by siblings, Nedra Hough, Evergreen Shores; Dale and Delina Belonga, St.Ignace; Patricia Martin, Evergreen Shores; Judy and John Winandy, Hessel. Many words can be used to describe Janice; Mother, Wife, ;Sister, and Friend. But most apt words would have to be selfless loving and beloved. Friends may call at Dodson Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 13 from 4 to 7 pm when Parish prayers will be recited. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, August 14 at 11 am at St.Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church with Fr. Norbert Landreville offiiating. She was a longtime faithful member of the church. Burial will be in St.Ignatius Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Oncology Department of Mackinac Straits Hospital with enelopes available from Dodson Funeral Home, 240 McCann Street, St.Ignace who assisted with arrangements.
