Joseph C. Haller

Joseph C Haller passed away Sunday June 10,2012 at Northern Michigan Hospital. At his side were his son Timothy Haller and daughter in law Jessica Haller. Also present were two of his grandchildren Christopher Haller and Courtney Terpening, as well as Corrina Kauffman, and Sherry Ewald. Joe was 80 years old. Joe was born in Sault Ste. Marie Michigan on March 1, 1932. He was the only son of Joseph P. and Lillian Haller. Joe attended St. Mary''s Catholic School and went on to high school in Sault Ste. Marie. In 1951 he joined the National Guard 1437tt1 out of Sault Ste. Marie. On October 7,1951 Joe was injured in Korea. He sustained injuries which left him paralyzed from the waist down. After returning home Joe met Mavis C. Mitchele, They were married June 18, 1962. Joe attended watchmaking school and became a certified watchmaker. He then opened a business in that field. Joe also attended Lake Superior State University and Michigan State University. He earned a Master''s degree in social work. Joe worked for the State of Michigan until he retired in the early 1990''s. Joe''s favorite pastime and his passion were shooting. In the mid 1960''s land was purchased to develop a shooting range. Joe and several others then founded the Chippewa County Shooting Association, Joe always would encourage new people of all ages to get involved in shooting. Today the club consists of over 600 members. Joe was also a lifetime member of the NRA, VFW, and the American legion. Joe Is survived by his son Timothy Haller and Daughter Jennifer Robbins. He is survived by 4 grandchildren Robert Haller, Christopher Haller, Kiarra Robbins, and Logan Robbins. He is survived by 7 step-grandchildren. Lindsey Bradley, her husband Michael Bradley, Courtney Terpening, Andrew Terpening, Trysten Terpening, Blaine Terpening, and Iva Terpening. Joe is also survived by 3 greatA�grandchildren Ethan Cruz, Zander Cruz and Jace Cruz. Joe was a very respected and loved member of the community. He was the type of person who throughout his live would go to any length to help someone: He thought of himself last. He is my Father. He is my Grandfather. Visitation will be 9:00am until 11:00am on Monday June 18th, 2012 in the Mary Room at St. Mary''s ProCathedral Church. Mass Of Christian Burial will be 11:00am Monday June 18th at St. Mary''s ProCathedral Church with Father Sebastian Kavumkal as Celebrant. Final resting place will be in Oaklawn Chapel Gardens, next to his wife. Memorial contributions may be made to Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home.
