Joseph J. Marchetti

Joseph John (Pepi) Marchetti, 94, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, went to be with his heavenly Father on November 4, 2016. He was born in Sault Ste. Marie on September 4, 1922 to Giovanni and Maria Marchetti. "Pepi" as he was known to everyone, grew up on Johnston Street where his parents owned the Marchetti's Market. He graduated from high school in 1940 and then joined the Coast Guard from 1942-1946. While he was stationed in Cleveland, Ohio, he met his soul mate and the love of his life, Rena Jean Moorehead. They were married June 26, 1946 in Sault Ste. Marie at St. Mary's Church. They remained in the Sault where they worked and raised their children. Pepi went to work at his parent's store as a meat cutter, and then continued in this profession working at Lock City Food Market, Callahan's Market, A&P and Aunt Marian's Market. He then sold Electrolux vacuum cleaners for 11 years, where his salesmanship earned him many trips with his lovely wife. He retired in 1985. He and Jean spent their retirement years enjoying their summer home on Sugar Island and loving their wintertime home in Zephyrhills, Florida. Pepi was an active member of St. Mary's Church, where he was an usher for many years. He also enjoyed his memberships at the Elks Lodge and the Christopher Colombus Hall. Many people remembered him for his wine making skills and his homemade sausage. When in Zephyrhills he became an avid and competitive shuffle board player, winning several tournaments. Pepi was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 68 years, brothers George and Mario and his sister, Louise (Judd) Jorgensen. Survivors include his sons John (Ardie), Greg (Deb), Stephen "Monk" and Scott (Teri), and his daughter, Mary (Keith) Elliott, all of Sault Ste. Marie. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Stacy (Marc) Johnson of Pickford, MI, Cassie Marchetti of Girard, GA, Lexi Marchetti of Rockledge, FL, DJ Mansfield (Dana) of Sault Ste. Marie, Chris (Yelena) Mansfield of Woodale, IL, Levi Marchetti of Eugene, OR, Brandi Marchetti of Sault Ste. Marie; great-grandchildren Logan and Garrett Mayer of Sault Ste. Marie, and Anna and Emma Mansfield of Woodale, IL. Other survivors include a nephew John Jorgensen Sr. (Pat) of Sault Ste. Marie, a niece Toni Wilson of Cambridge, OH and aspecial lifelong friend, Peter Gianakura of Grand Rapids, MI. Friends may visit at St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral Church in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on Monday, November 7, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. A mass will be offered at 11:30 a.m. with Fr. Sebastian officiating. Committal service will immediately follow at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens. In lieu of flowers and plants, the family asks that donations be made to either the Chippewa County Animal Shelter or the McKinley Manor Activity Fund. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to those who made Pepi's final days so comfortable, including Dr. Eero Ranta and his staff, Nancy Moher, and the very caring and loving staff of McKinley Manor.
