Julie Renee Norton

Julie Renee (Sorenson) Norton, age 65, of Hessel, Michigan, died peacefully at McLaren Hospice House of Cheboygan in Cheboygan, Michigan, on February 24, 2023. She was born in St. Ignace, Michigan, to Merle Eldred and Catherine Helen (Varney) Sorenson. Julie grew up in St. Ignace and graduated from LaSalle High School in 1976. After graduating, she moved to Chicago, Illinois, and worked as a waitress, housekeeper, and other small odd jobs. She married Anthony Allegretti, and had her daughter, Erin. They parted several years later and one day, while bowling, she met David Norton and they married in May of 1998, and later moved to Texas where Dave’s parents resided. Dave had a heart attack and passed away on August 3, 2009. Julie moved back to St. Ignace and started working for Kewadin Shores Casino, as a Pit Boss and gaming dealer. She retired in 2018. Julie was a proud member of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians. Julie was a free-spirted fun-loving person who loved watching movies, playing board games with her daughter and relaxing with her grand "fur" babies. Julie loved watching wild animals and birds in her yard. She enjoyed playing cribbage, doing jigsaw puzzles, playing bingo, and being her dad’s first mate while boating and fishing. She liked attending family cookouts and get togethers. For the past few years, she was a caregiver to her parents and friends. She will be missed by many loved ones. Julie is survived by her parents; daughter, Erin Allegretti (Sean Hendricks) of Illinois; sister, Denise “Dee Dee” (“Soap”) Bickham of Hesse; Goddaughter and niece, Rebecca (Nick) Boston; father and mother-in-law, Derrell and Carol Norton of Texas; stepson, Chris Norton; special aunt and uncle, Roger and Cheryl Sorenson, and their families of Indiana; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Julie is preceded in death by her husband, David Norton; infant brother, Bruce; and grandparents, Myron and Leone Sorenson, and Clifford and Anna Varney. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. Final resting place will be at Lakeside Cemetery in St. Ignace, Michigan. Galer Funeral Home of Pickford, Michigan, is service the family.
