Kathryn Theresa Alexander

Kathryn Theresa "Katie" Alexander, age 72, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan passed away early Friday morning, April 6, 2018, at her home. Katie was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on August 8, 1945, the daughter of the late Stanley and Kathryn (Moen) Sipniewski. She graduated from Loretto High School with the class of 1963. Katie worked for many years as a physical therapist at War Memorial Hospital and sometimes Tender-Care Nursing Home. She retired in 2007. Katie was an enthusiast of baby animals especially little pigs and collected numerous pig related items. For many years, she was also an avid bowler, winning many trophies and her well-known "Yahoo" when she or a teammate would get a strike. One of her biggest joys was the family events held at Grandpa Sips place on the lower river especially the 4th of July camping when relatives from all over would come to town for the annual gathering. She also enjoyed ice fishing, berry picking, Bingo and the occasional ride around to view the little critters and scenery. After her retirement, she continued as a volunteer for many special events with her sisters that would include delivering the mail to patients and those in long-term care. When she would take the time from her busy schedule she would like to sit and enjoy a good cup of coffee with her longtime companion Glenn while watching the birds that would come to the feeders all to the amusement of her cat Martha. Katie is survived by her companion and best friend of 28 years: Glenn McFadden, her daughter: Carrie (Brian) Eavou of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; two sons: Fritz (Traci) Alexander of Sault Ste. Marie, MI and Kevin (Amber) Alexander of Rogers City, MI; two step-sons: Jason McFadden of Marquette, MI and Michael McFadden of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; 10 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. She is also survived by three sisters: Muriel Mills of Fruitport, MI, Victoria Dragiewicz of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, and Phyllis (Chuck) Pehrson of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; and a brother: Stanley (Dianne) Sipniewski of Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Katie was preceded in death by her parents: Stanley and Kathryn Sipniewski; her sister: Sandy Chamberlain; brothers-in-law: Joe Mills and Walter Dragiewicz; and former Daughter-in-law and friend: Sandy Alexander. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 13th with a gathering from 10:00 AM until Noon, followed by a short prayer service at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Though she loved them, please, in lieu of flowers the family ask memorials to be donated to the American Heart Association.
