Kenneth "Rick" Richard Maleport

Kenneth "Rick" Richard Maleport, age 69, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away at his home surrounded by family on December 20, 2023. He was born on May 19, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan, to Kenneth John and Bernice Patricia (Piche) Maleport. Kenneth grew up in Sault Ste. Marie and graduated from Sault High School with the class of 1973. He joined the U.S. Army after graduation and was honorably discharged in 1977. After his return to Sault Ste. Marie, he met Margaret "Peggy" (Murphy) Maleport, and they married on December 15, 1978. Rick at an early age learned to build houses to which he used this knowledge upon his return-to-work various construction jobs. He even had his own company at one time. His true love was finishing. He then later started working at the State of Michigan Correction Facility as a locksmith, for seventeen years, retiring in 2010. Kenneth was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, snowmobiling, gardening, and fixing things. He also loved spending time with his family and his fur babies, Buddy and Charlie. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Margaret "Peggy" of Sault Ste. Marie; daughter, Michelle (Jason) Huyck of Sault Ste. Marie; grandchildren, Cassandra (Jonathan Coullard) Huyck, Bailey Carey, Tanner Carey and Harper Huyck; great-grandchild, Adam Coullard; sisters, Teri (Mike) Romano of Sault Ste. Marie, Pat (Mike) Deuman of Sault Ste. Marie, and Lori Murphy of Sault Ste. Marie; brothers, Melvin (Paula) Maleport of Sault Ste. Marie and Randy Maleport of Sault Ste. Marie; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Judy) McDonald of Sault Ste. Marie and Richard Clerc of Sault Ste. Marie; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Bernice; in-laws, Dorothy (Lafaver) and John Murphy; sisters, Janice McDonald and Sara Clerc; niece Sheree "Digga" Benoit; nephew, Jerry McDonald Jr.; and sisters-in-law, Deborah "Debbie" Maleport, Pam (Pete) Synett, and Barb (Richard) Christie. Memorial Contributions can be made out to the Hospice House of the EUP, 308 W. 12th Ave, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Summer of 2024.
