Lawrence Earl Ledy

Lawrence Earl “Lorrie” Ledy, age 94, of Drummond Island, Michigan, died Monday, October 19, 2015 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. He was born February 14, 1921 on Drummond Island to Frank and Candice (Anderson) Ledy. Lorrie grew up on Drummond Island and worked on the family farm while going to school. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Corps. On March 26, 1946, he married Lillian Alice (Satago) Bailey in French Lick, Indiana and they had three children, Ruth, Lawrence, and Kevin. Lorrie worked at the Drummond Island Dolomite Quarry, The Drummond Island Hunt Club, and as caretaker for the Benua Family, Bald Island, and Harbor Island. He also helped with the family mail service business. Lorrie was a member of the St. Florence Catholic Church, Drummond Sportsman’s Club, Snowmobile Club and Moose Lodge. Lorrie enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, boating, going to camp with friends at Canoe Bay, playing cards, listening to music, mushroom hunting, and attending children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and other school functions. Lorrie is survived by two sons, Kevin (Karen) Ledy of Pataskala, Ohio, and Gerry (Betty) Bailey of Drummond Island; son-in-law, Michael Bootz; grandchildren, Jenny (Tim) Morgan, Jason Ledy, Johna (Shawn) Walter, Lawrence Ledy, Adam Ledy, Nathan (Heather) Bootz, Joshua Bootz, Luke (Kathy) Bootz, Kelli (Mark) Bailey Ouimet, Scott (Cindy) Bailey, and Sharolyn (David) Bailey Steele; and great grandchildren, Lillia, Kevin, and Nathan Walter, Dominic and Marcus Jewell, Alexandra, Andrew, and Brock Bootz, Zachary Steele, Trey Ouimet, and Avah, Cole, and Grayson Bootz. Lorrie is also survived by two brothers, Forrest “Forrie” Ledy and Delbert “Sam” Ledy; sister, Pansy Ledy Gore; sister-in-law, Betty Ledy, all of Drummond Island; and many nieces and nephews. Lorrie was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian; sons, Lawrence Ledy and Douglas Bailey; daughter, Ruth Ledy Bootz; and brothers, Clayton Ledy and Milton “Bing” Ledy. Visitation will be held Friday, October 23, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at R. Galer Funeral Home, 24549 S. M-129 in Pickford, Michigan. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, October 24 at 12:00 Noon at St. Florence Catholic Church on Drummond Island. There will be a visitation from 11:00 to 11:30 at the church before the service. Burial will be in Drummond Island Cemetery.
