Barbara J. Powers

Barbara Jean. Powers, 83 of St.Ignace passed away early Wednesday morning, April 30 at Bortz Health Care System in Petoskey. She was born in Gros Cap on January 6,1931 to Jaspar and Lucy (Bourisaw) St.Louis, the youngest of 15 children. She graduated from LaSalle High School in St. Ignace and married Ronald Powers on September 3,1949 in St.Ignace.They raised their family of 5 boys and 4 girls in the St.Ignace area, with exception of 3 years in Brevort. She is a member of St.Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church and St. Ann's Altar Society. She is an Elder with the Sault Tribe Chippewa Indians, and a former member of Women of the Moose. She worked for the St.Ignace Truck Stop as a waitress for over 15 years, and was manager of Bridgeview Apartments and Charters Cove several years, and became Regional Manager of the U.P because of her management ability., working for a Lansing Management Co. She and her husband also managed the Federal Forest Campgrounds several summers She was a homemaker and very loyal to her family.and will be sorely missed. She is survived by her 5 sons and families; Randy and Lorraiine Powers, Mackinaw City; Rick and Laura Powers, Janesville, WI; Ron and Shannon Powers, Escanaba; Rodney Powers, Middletown, Ohio;Robert and Jenn Powers, Hessel; 4 daughters and families, Ronna and Tom Farley, Salem, N.H.; Rienette and Jerry Murray, St.Ignace.;Roxanne Tallman, Moran; Renee and Pat Harrington, Cheboygan; 24 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great- great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald on September 17,2005; and a grandson Brett. Also her parents and siblings brothers, Clarence; Joseph; Russell; Richard; Leonard; Martin; Lloyd and Stanley; sisters, Julia Reinitz; Isabelle Hansen; Florence Smith; Louise Everson Edith Ferris,; and Janet Scott. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, May 3 at 12 noon at St.Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church with Fr. Pawel Mecwel officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 11 am until service time. Burial will be in Gros Cap Cemetery beside her husband later in the spring. Dodson Funeral Home, St.Ignace assisted the family with arrangements.;
