Lorraine Papineau

Heaven received its most beautiful angel today with the passing of a beloved wife, mother, grandma and great- grandma, Lorraine ( O''Connor ) Papineau, due to complications of alzheimers. Lorraine was born July 5, 1924 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to Michael and Frances O''Connor. She resided at 408 E. Portage Ave. through- out her young years. She graduated from Loretto Academy in 1941. She worked at F.W. Woolworth for a short time and then Michigan Bell Telephone Company for 33 years where she advanced to the position of assistant chief. She was responsible for the training of many new Telephone Operator''s .She had the distinction of being the last woman to leave the company when they closed the office in the Sault. After her retirement Lorraine was involved in Kit Club Telephone Pioneers of America and the Hospital Auxilary. She loved to volunteer her time to others. On July 28, 1946 she married John J. ( Jack ) Papineau. They had been married for 66 years. Lorraine was a devout Catholic and never wavered from her faith even in her most difficult times. Lorraine was predeceased by her parents Frances and Michael O''Connor and her in-laws John and Geneva Papineau. She was also predeceased by her siblings ; Mary Pflaum, Aurea Pietila, Lois Cowgill, Edward O''Connor and Donna Bennett. She is survived by her husband John, son Steve Papineau and Diane Drake of the Soo, Daughter Michelle (Dan) Whitaker of Potterville, Mi.. grand-children ; Chris and Sarah Papineau, Jeff and Katie Whitaker and Jill Whitaker. Great-grand-children ; Jack and Nicholas Papineau, Lilly and Mackenzie Whitaker. She is also survived by her sister Shirley ( Jerome ) Donnelly and sister-in-law Margery Quinn and several nieces and nephews. The family would also like to acknowledge the special care given to Lorraine by the staff at McKinley Manor and Freighter View assisted living. A special thank you to Kathryn Connelly for the loving care she gave Lorraine, we will never forget her kindness and compassion. Visitation will be at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home on Thursday, February 28, 2013 from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 1, 2013 at St. Mary''s ProCathedral Church at 11:00 am with Father Sebastian Kavumkal as Celebrant. Burial will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens later in the spring. The family requested that memorial contributions be given to St. Mary''s school in Lorraine''s name.
