Mabel Ellen McCord

Mabel Ellen (Bickham) McCord, age 88, of Pickford, Michigan, formerly of St. Ignace, Michigan, and Hessel, Michigan, died at Ball Hospice House, in Sault Ste. Marie, on December 23,2022. She was born in Wayne County, Michigan, on December 29, 1933, to Peter and Delia Augusta (Lindberg) Bickham. Mabel grew up in Hessel, Michigan, and graduated from Cedarville High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Harold William McCord, and began their family. She began working at the Cheese Factory for over ten years. After they moved to St. Ignace, she began working on Mackinac Island, Michigan, making and selling dolls at the Doll Shop for over ten years. Many may remember her design of the Some Where In Time doll she made. She was the cook for the workers at the riding stable. After a very bad storm, she left the island and worked at the Big Boy Restaurant in St Ignace until her retirement. Mabel was a member of the doll club and attended painting classes in Moran, Michigan. Mabel was a strong believer of the Bible, she was considered non-denomination, that was her life, she enjoyed writing hymns, music, and songs, playing the piano and accordion. She was also a fantastic cook: making huge family dinners that everyone loved. She was a very talented and creative woman with porcelain doll making, painting, knitting, and arts & crafts. She is proceeded in death by her husband, Harold McCord; her mother, Delia Bickham; sister, Nancy Bickham; brother, Stanley and Jack; son, Ronald; Grandchild, Jason Grogan; and grand daughter-in-law, Allison McCord. Mabel is survived by her children, Kelvin McCord, James McCord, and Donna (Grogan) McCord; daughter-in-law, Ruth McCord; son-in-law, Keith Grogan; grandchildren, Shannon (Scott) Jones, Russel McCord, Jessica McCord, Laura Jeffreys, Sarah (Jacob) McMillan, Eric (Joie) McCord, William (Brianna) Grogan, Shanda McCord, Rachel (Harold) Gravelle; great-grandchildren, Elisha Howell, Alyssa McCord, Gavin McCord, Rylee Seabrook, Connor McCord, Taylor Sullivan, Kayden Kiefer, Hanna McCord, Ace Dekeyser, Troy McCord, Adien Jeffreys, Kaleb Kiefer, Adelynn Jeffery’s, Cutler Grogan, Adrik Jeffreys, Mya McMillan, Lia Grogan, Aken Jeffreys, Jason Grogan, Sky McMillan, Hazel Gravelle, Colton O’Brien, Asher Jeffreys, and Hudson Foley; and great-great grandson, Cyrus McLeod.
