Margaret \"Peggy\" Brown

Margaret D. "Peggy" Brown, 86 of St.Ignace passed away peacefully Friday evening, May 20 at her home. She was born August 23,1924 in Evanston, Illinois to Peter & Jane (Weber) Delose. She graduated from University Liggett School in Detroit , attended Bradford Junior College, Bradford, Mass. and held a degree in English from UCLA, and a degree from Catherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York as a legal Secretary. She was always a very giving and gracious lady, with a motto "when a particular need is seen, we should meet that need". She believed that giving of your life that fullfills & we are here to help each other. She was a longtime member of the St.Ignace United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School nearly 55 years. She also directed the MYF program for 30 years, and an active member of the United Methodist Women. She was a charter member of the Mackinac Straits Hospital Auxilary; worked in Red Cross; and was a Girl Scout Leader many years. She was a trainer and helper with the Gros Cap Special Education program for over 20 years, and was an original Board Member of the Hospice in St.Ignace. She volunteered at the St.Ignace Hope Chest and Food Pantry. Peggy was a member of Sigma Gamma-Gamma Phi Beta. She dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The whole family spent spring vacations at Sea Island, Georgia for many years, a real joy to her. Because of her giving of herself she was named a U.P. Lady of the Year in 1979, for her dedication to community affairs. She was one of the original "famous" Bridge Club members in St.Ignace.She loved gardening, and going out to dinner with her family. She will be dearly missed by her family and the whole community. She is survived by her husband, Prentiss M. "Moie" Brown Jr. whom she married on June 19,1948 at Central Methodist Church in Detroit;; her family; Stephen & Janet Brown, Grand Rapids; Charles & Nancy Brown, St.Ignace; Mary Margaret "Diggy: & Dr. Scott Clement, St.Ignace; and Ben & Claudette Brown, St.Ignace. Grandchildren, Katie, Michael, Jeffery, Hayley, Marion, Jimmy, Krista, Joe, Allison, and Margo. Great Grandchildren, John, Margaret and Oscar. Also has a sister, Mary Courtis, Red Lodge, Montana; many nieces, nephews and extended family.She was preceeded in death by 2 brothers, Roger & David Dolese. Visitation will be on Monday, May 23 from 4 to 8 pm at Dodson Funeral Home, St.Ignace. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, May 24 at 11 am at the St.Ignace United Methodist Church with Rev. Erik Alsgaard officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
