Mary Eileen Bahra

Marquette, MI- Mary Eileen Bahra, 93, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister peacefully entered eternal life on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at the Norlite Nursing Center surrounded by the loving care and support of her family, staff and Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice. Eileen was born July 8, 1925 in Toledo, Ohio, the youngest child of Charles and Mary (Gallagher) Finn. She was raised in Farmington, Michigan. Eileen graduated from St. Theresa of Avila High School in 1943 and Mercy College School of Nursing Detroit, Michigan in 1946. She worked at Mount Carmel Mercy Hospital as a nurse until her marriage. Eileen married Robert Joseph Bahra at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Farmington, Michigan on October 4, 1947. Eileen and Robert lived in Iron Mountain, Oak Park and Farmington Hills in Michigan while raising a large family. They retired to Trails End Bay on Lake Michigan near Mackinaw City in 1984. In the past, Eileen enjoyed visiting with friends, playing cards, bowling and traveling to the warm weather in Florida. Eileen loved warm weather! Eileen was preceded in death by Robert, her loving husband of 61 years; Mark Edward, her infant son; and Thomas Finn, her brother who perished in WWII. Eileen is survived by eight children, Mary (Thomas) Friggens of Marquette, Kathleen Bahra of Marquette, Thomas Bahra of Mackinaw City, Robert (Joni) Bahra of Traverse City, Paul (Kristin) Bahra of Northville, Michael (Marsha) Bahra of Traverse City, Maureen (David) Heinonen of Trenary and Peter Bahra of Garfield, New Jersey. Eileen is also survived by nine grandchildren, Christopher (Debbie) Friggens of Grand Haven, Michigan, Michael Friggens of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Elizabeth (Erik) Kau of Parkland, Florida, Paul Stephen (Jennifer) Bahra of Wheaton, Illinois, Caitlin (Steven) Frazier of Portage, Michigan, Maren Bahra of Detroit, Michigan, Mark and Karl Heinonen of Hancock, Michigan , Joseph Heinonen of Trenary, Michigan. Eileen is survived by 7 great grandchildren, James and Kyle Friggens, Katherine, Avery and Charles Kau, Beau Frazier and Zoe Bahra. Eileen is also survived by her sister, Margaret Mary (Finn) Burger of Plymouth, Michigan. Memorial donations in Mary Eileen's name may be made to Norlite Nursing Center of Marquette which provided her with excellent compassionate care during her stay with them. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Dodson Funeral Home of St. Ignace, Michigan. Visitation will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Mackinaw City, Michigan on Tuesday, May 28 from 10 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 12 noon. A graveside service will follow the funeral Mass.
