Elizabeth "Liz" Pomarius

Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Pomarius, 93, of Cedarville, Michigan, died July 11, 2014 in Cedarville. She was born January 1, 1921 in Stalwart, Michigan, to Russell Alexander and Sarah Olive “Ollie” (Crawford) Sims. Liz grew up in Stalwart and graduated in 1939 from Pickford High School. She married Marshall Blain Cruickshank on October 15, 1940 and they moved to Cedarville where they raised two sons. Marshall died in 1963. Liz married Laurence Alfred Pomarius in June 1967. Liz and Larry owned and operated Larry’s Cabins near Cedarville for 33 years before they sold the resort and moved to Lakeside Road. She also worked for more than 20 years for the Weekly Wave in Hessel and Cedarville where she helped assemble the paper. After Larry’s death in 2001, Liz made her home in town in Cedarville. Liz was a member of the First Union Church of Cedarville where she was active in the Mary Martha Women’s Circle and a member of the Stalwart Presbyterian Church where she worked at the dinners served at Stalwart Fair time through 2012. Liz loved bowling, bingo, and was an avid reader. She enjoyed crocheting and she was still crocheting afghans for babies at the hospital. Liz is survived by one son, Russell (Jeanne) Cruickshank of Cedarville; grandchildren, Janie Cruickshank, Vickie Clark, Jim Cruickshank, Julie Raymond, Rickie Cruickshank, Kimberly Cruickshank, and Steve Cruickshank; great grandchildren, Holly, Shane, and Amanda Cruickshank, and Laci Barth; and sister-in-law, Kitty Sims of Stalwart. Liz was preceded in death by husbands, Marshall Cruickshank and Larry Pomarius; son, Roger Cruickshank; grandson, Jerry Cruickshank; great-granddaughter, Christie Raymond; and brother Robert Sims. Services will be held Wednesday, July 16 at R. Galer Funeral Home, 24549 S. M-129 in Pickford, Michigan. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon with the funeral services starting at Noon. Pastor Jeffrey Myers will be conducting the service.
