Michael Hoholik

Michael J. Hoholik, of Sault Ste. Marie, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, January, 1, 2011. He was born April 23, 1940 to the late Paul and Irene (Pell) Hoholik. He was a life long resident of Sault Ste. Marie and was employed at Lake Superior University retiring in 2004. When not riding his motorcycle or playing and winning at Jeopardy, Michael took pleasure in cooking, reading, studying history and enjoying classic cars, watching old movies or listening to classical music and spending time with his dog, Bella. Michael was an active member of St. Mary''s Catholic Church singing in the choir and performing the duties of a Lay Reader. He also served on the board of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. On August 8, 1959 he married Frances Fazzari and together they have five children, Catherine (Stephen) Diamond of Joshua Tree, CA, Christine (Steve) Ritter of Canton, MI, Michele Gilbert of Sault Ste. Marie, Paul Hoholik of Ferndale, MI, and Stephanie (Ron) Eagle of Sault Ste. Marie. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Zachary Oiler, Sam and Jessica Gilbert, Katja Ritter, Luke Eagle and one great-grandchild, Kaydin Oiler. Survivors also include sisters-in-law Nancy Fazzari (the late Ken) Kelley of Rochester Hills, MI, Toni Fazzari (Jerome) Mancuso of Howell, MI, Ann Marie Fazzari (Jim) Woodall of Brimley, MI, Carolyn Fazzari (Joe) Howie of Bartlesville, OK, and Roseann Fazzari (Steve) Barner of Lansing, MI. Two brothers-in-law Raymond (Dora) Fazzari of Laytonsville, MD, and Kenneth (Linda) Fazzari of Sault Ste. Marie. One uncle, Frank S. Sylvestro of Sault Ste. Marie, three cousins, Brian Short of Sault Ste. Marie, Robert Comstock of Dallas, TX and Paul Hoholik of Green Bay, WI. And many nieces and nephews. Beside his parents, preceding him in death were a brother Peter, cousins Bonnie (Pell) Caruso whom the Hoholik''s raised, Howie and Marjorie (Pell) Comstock and their three children Christine, Paula and Peter and mother-in-law and father-in-law Rosa and Michele Fazzari. A Mass of Celebration and Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at St. Mary''s Catholic Church, Sault Ste. Marie, with visitation in the Mary Room at 11:00 a.m. and mass at 12:00 p.m. with Father Sebastian Kavumkal and Father Theodore Broduer officiating. Memorials honoring Michael''s life and his faith may be sent to St. Mary''s Catholic School. Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
