Mildred Lorraine Block

Mildred Lorraine Block, age 96, formerly of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, and Traverse City, Michigan, and more recently from DeTour Village, Michigan, died on February 18, 2018 at her daughter’s home in DeTour Village. She was born March 30, 1921 in Isabella County to Earl L. “Thomas” and Josephine Catherine (Bader) Mc Reavy. Mildred grew up in the Mt. Pleasant area and attended the local school. She met Raymond Walter Block and they married on May 26, 1938 in Mt. Pleasant. They started their family on the Block farm before moving to Harrison, Michigan and later Midland, Michigan. Mildred was a seamstress and worked in various drycleaners using her skills. At home, she made all her children’s clothes. She also worked in dress shops and later did daycare from her home until she retired in Traverse City. Mildred and her husband Raymond (Pat) Block were members of the Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant. Mildred enjoyed going to a Traverse City area spinning group. She loved traveling to Mexico and going on cruises. She liked antiquities and collecting Blue Willow dishes. Since she came to DeTour Village she loved freighter viewing almost as much as she enjoyed her Rum N Coke! Mildred is survived by her daughters, Diane (Roger) Stocking of DeTour Village and Janice (James) Hinds of Traverse City; grandchildren, Kenneth, Lesly, Todd, Kathleen, Shelley, Kelley, Jenna, Jillian, Iain, Jasmine, Matthew, Andrew, Stanley, Christina, Raymond, Abby, Paul, Chelsea, Joshua, and Hannah Grace; great-grandchildren; Heather, Mary, Lucas, Sophie, Matthew, Hannah Saray, Blake, Liam, Hannah, Hope, Remington, Geo, Zoe, Star, Sage, Annaleah, Ellie, Austin, Mason, Evelyn, Jayde, Odin, Olivia, and Athena; great-great-grandchildren, London, Mason, and Kiley. Also surviving are many others, the family did not wish to exclude anyone, as so many folks were “like family”! Mildred is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, whom she was married to 70 plus years; sons, Kenneth and Thomas Block; granddaughter Jayme; grandson, William; sisters, Marie Burden and Ruth Henry, plus all their extended families, too.
