Millie King

Millie King, aged 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 12 at the Evergreen Living Center with her family by her side. Millie was born on Sept. 2, 1934, in Moran, Michigan, the sixth of nine children born to Phil and Edith Becker. Millie was born and raised on a farm in Moran, and spoke fondly over the years of that special place she called home. She shared her love of any kind of animal, whether it be a cow, a chicken, a cat or dog with her family and friends, and was known for feeding countless stray animals as they came her way. Millie enjoyed many things during her lifetime, some of which included playing cards, painting, crocheting, feeding the birds, picking wild berries, gardening, reading, spending time with her family, cooking and baking. Millie was known especially for her pies, which she learned to make from her mother, and they were always among the first sought after at church bake sales. Millie attended school in her early years in Moran and later graduated from LaSalle High School in St. Ignace. Millie was a line cook for many years at The Galley and the North Bay Inn of St. Ignace. She was an active member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Moran, was the chairperson for the Annual Hunters Dinner for many years and belonged to the Ladies Altar Society, along with many other activities. Millie met her first husband, Neil Salisbury, during the construction of the Mackinac Bridge. Together they raised three children who she is survived by, two daughters, Marci and Mike Bishop of St. Ignace, Joni and Mike Grogan of Moran, and a son, Ed Salisbury of Charlevoix. Millie had three grandchildren, Lindsay Bishop (Jeremy Vesper), Neil Salisbury (Hannah Doan) and Nick Grogan as well as three great-grandchildren, Sophie, Gracie, and Warren Salisbury. Millie later married Tony King who she maintained a close friendship with up until his passing. Millie is survived by her sister Mary and Don Lugering of Moran, close family friend Nora Massey, along with many other relatives and friends. Millie was preceded in death by her parents, other siblings, and special friend Ralph Coburn. A Mass of Christian burial took place at Immaculate Conception Parish on Tuesday, June 18th and she was laid to rest at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Moran, on land that was donated to the parish by her father, Phillip Becker. The family is requesting memorial donations be made to the Mackinac Animal Aid Association of St. Ignace.
