Molly Marriott (Marriott) Davis

Molly Marriott Davis died, peacefully in her sleep, at War Memorial Hospital on April 1, 2015, from complications of Multiple Sclerosis. She was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on May 24, 1942 to Myrtle and Charles Marriott. Molly attended Garfield elementary school and Sault Junior High. She graduated from Sault High School in 1960. As a girl, Molly was active in Blue Birds, Campfire Girls, Daughters of Job, Presbyterian youth, and was a talented flute player, pianist, and ice skater. Those who knew Molly admired her ebullient nature and warm smile. Congeniality was Molly’s cornerstone. Molly was graduated from Michigan State University in 1964, where she joined Alpha Delta Pi sorority, with a BA in education. She was a revered kindergarten teacher in the Denver Public School System for 15 years, when she retired to care for her quadriplegic husband. On August 10, 1968, Molly and Maurice (Moe) Davis were married at the First Presbyterian Church in Sault Ste. Marie. Their daughter, Amy Old Davis, was born in Denver on July 6, 1972. Throughout her lifetime Molly enjoyed spending part of each summer on Sugar Island at the cottage, established by her great-great-great uncle and aunt in 1905, where she and her father spent many happy hours fishing together. Molly learned to cook at her mother’s side and enjoyed serving delicious meals based on those recipes to family and friends for many years. Her gracious style made formal dinners great fun for all. After residing in Colorado for 42 years, Molly and Moe returned to Michigan in 2006 and established their home in the Sault on the lower St. Mary’s River. Molly always warmly welcomed family and friends to her and Moe’s home and took great pleasure in their company. They in turn appreciated her grace, generosity, loyalty, and good spirits. She will be greatly missed. The Davis family will warmly greet visitors from 5pm to 7pm on Monday, April 6, 2015 at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home. On the morning of April 7 from 9am-10am visitors may view an open casket at First United Presbyterian Church on Bingham Avenue in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to be followed by a memorial service from 10am to 11am. It is the family’s request that those who might consider donations in Molly’s name choose a Multiple Sclerosis fund of their choice.
