Neil Campbell

Neil Harold Campbell, 61, passed away from COVID-19 complications on November 9, 2021, at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Neil was born on July 4, 1960, in South Haven, Michigan to Glenn Harold and Priscilla Mary (Barnes) Campbell. He married the love of his life, Linda (Bateman) Campbell on October 11, 1986. He was a proud father of four children, Andrea Campbell, Annette (Devon) Hobbs, Neil William Campbell, and Melissa Campbell. These loving family members survive him as well as siblings Allen (Deborah) Campbell, Vern (Shelly) Campbell and Barbara (Steven) Slagel, grandson Henry Hobbs, and many nieces and nephews. After graduating from Big Rapids High School in 1979, Neil completed a bachelor's degree in heavy equipment technology from Ferris State University. He retired from John Deere in 2020 after a successful career as a Performance & Efficiency Engineer. He was fluent in German and often traveled to Germany and several mid-western states in his service to the company. His talents were many and his dedication to any endeavor resulted in exceptional results. He loved to renovate vehicles, miraculously restoring several piles of rust to pristine beauty. He loved music, especially making music with his family, and was accomplished on guitar, banjo, and trumpet. There were no downtimes for Neil - every spare moment was filled with music making. He shared these gifts freely with his church and with his friends and neighbors. He was a gifted farmer raising crops of soybeans and wheat on their farm, Bean Blossom. He often observed with delight how the wheat looked like waves in the wind. Neil especially loved the family cottage in Brimley, MI on beautiful Lake Superior and enjoyed spending most of this past summer with his loved ones there. Visiting hours are from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 15, 2021, at the C.S. Mulder Funeral Home, 4951 S. M-129, Sault Ste. Marie. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. followed by burial at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens. Light refreshments will be provided after the burial at First Congregational Church, 2984 M-221, Brimley, MI.
