Percy C. Bonacci

Percy C. Bonacci of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan passed away on Friday February 14, 2014 (Valentine’s Day) at War Memorial Hospital. He was born January 28, 1927 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to the late Carmine and Rachela Bonacci. He was a 1944 graduate of Sault Area High School. Percy proudly served in the U.S. Army in Germany during WWII. He worked at the Tannery upon coming back from Germany and later worked at Soo Bottling Company. He was the former owner of Bromwells Gas Station located at the corner of Johnston & Easterday. Percy was an insurance agent and owner of Bonacci Insurance Agency. He was an avid fisherman and a member of the Old Mill Hunting Camp, he had 60 years of great hunting and fishing stories. He was a proud member of the Christopher Columbus Italian Society for over 50 years which during that time he also served as president, he was also a board member of the Vietnam Veterans Foundation. Percy was a loving husband, father, brother and son. Family was very important to him. He loved to visit and spend time with his family and friends. After retiring he enjoyed traveling with his brothers and sisters and visiting his many friends all over the country. He had a great sense of humor, loved to play practical jokes and had them played on him quite often. He was quick with a smile and a hug. Always kind and generous, he will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him. Survived by his two daughters Bonnie Brown and Percilla ‘Snooky’ (Arden) Bawkey, Granddaughter Jackie Pemberton, Grandson Max Brown and Great Grandsons Steven (Tatji) Wojichowski, Zachary Sarif, Sisters Clara Libertoski, Margie Tatti, Zena Bredeson, Anna (Donnie) Bonacci-Slater, Brothers Americo Bonacci and Carmine (Debra) Bonacci, Stepbrothers Tony (Jean) Ammendola and Bino (Karen) Ammendola, Sister in law Joyce Bonacci, Brother in law Leslie Graham. Percy was a beloved uncle to his special niece Helen Marie and her husband Robert (Grit) Gilmer and also to his many other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Percy was predeceased by his wife ‘The love of his life’ the former Ella Mae Splan Bonacci, his parents Carmine Bonacci, Rachela Bonacci and step mother Marie Bonacci, his sister Nita Graham, his brother Tony Bonacci, his sister in law Helen Bonacci and his brother in law’s Adam Libertoski and Salvatore Tatti. Visitation will be 2:00pm until 5:00pm and 7:00pm until 9:00pm on Friday February 21, 2014 at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am Saturday February 22, 2014 at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Brother John Hascall officiating. Memorials may be left to the Christopher Columbus Italian Society Restoration Fund or War Memorial Hospital Nurses Scholarship Program, Attn. Marla Bunker, or a charity of your choice.
