Phyllis Laverne Arnott

Phyllis Laverne (Lancour) Arnott, age 85, of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, passed away on October 31, 2011, at her home from a brief illness with family by her side. Phyllis was born in Chassell, Michigan on September 5, 1926, to Archie and Elsie Lancour. Phyllis came to Sault Ste. Marie at age 16 and was employed as an aide at War Memorial Hospital where she met her best friend "Bea Wilcox" whom she remained close to throughout her lifetime. She then was employed at the Hercules Powder Plant in Wisconsin during World War II. Upon return she was employed at Robertson''s Laundry, Northern Linen, St. Joseph''s Rectory as a housekeeper, and then served as a Food Server at Lincoln School until she retired. She was a lifetime member of St. Joseph''s Parish and belonged to the St. Joseph''s Parish Ladies Guild. She was a Sunshine Lady for NARFE. She enjoyed crafts, knitting, shopping, cooking and baking. She had an admiration for collecting jewelry that was unbelievable. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends on Fridays and had many dear friends. She especially was fond of spending time with her family and friends with many fond memories being shared especially on Sunday evenings where everyone came together for Sunday dinner at the farm. Phyllis is preceded in death by her father Archie Lancour, since age 5, and mother Elsie and step-father Raymond McCloskey, stepbrother Jeffrey McCloskey, her dear Auntie Mae that raised her in her childhood years, and her husband Donald T. Arnott of 49 years. Phyllis is survived by her son, John (Mary) Arnott, two daughters Donna (Jimmie) Rogers, and Gloria (Merlin) Atkins, two sisters Marlene (Wayne) Carter of Kingsford, MI and Joannie Dugener of Tallahassee, FL, six grandchildren Dan (Maryanne) Rogers, Kami (James) Avery, Kory Rogers, Jessie (Michael) Metrish, Roxie Arnott and Donnie Arnott, eight great grandchildren Kaylee, Kody and Kole Avery, Adrienne, Koryn and Emmitt Rogers, Brinna and Marek Metrish, four step-grandchildren Ronald (Colleen) Atkins and Pamela (Dave) Postma and Jeffrey and Kelsey Moran. And her little cat, Annie. Pallbearers will be Dan Rogers, Kami Avery, Kory Rogers, Jessie Metrish, Roxie Arnott and Donnie Arnott. Services for Phyllis will be held at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home Thursday November 3, 2011. Visiting time will be from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday 2:00pm with Father Piotr F. Zaczynski officiating. Interment will take place at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens. Memorial contributions can be left to Hospice of the E.U.P. or St. Joseph''s Catholic Parish.
